After taking a couple of years off, I'm finally getting some tile projects finished. We just finished regrouting the kitchen counters and doing some new counter work in the dining room, and will be tiling the bathroom this coming week.

My question is this: I bought some of the TYW products in Dec. 2003, including the Stone Armor sealer and the Heavy Duty grout cleaner (to clean kitchen floor grout before sealing).

Are they still good? I opened the Stone Armor bottle and it looks clear, not lumpy, and doesn't have a bad odor or anything.

Also, the directions for use on the back of the bottle aren't very specific. I had planned to check the directions here on the website for exactly how to use them, but they're not still carried in the TYW store. Is there a comparable product that I can read up on the directions, or where can I find exactly how to use the products I have?

Thanks!
Laura.

Coincidently I found a couple unopened quarts of Stone Armor and Stone Beauty yesterday which I bought at around the same timeframe as you. I have a few grouted testboards laying around so I'll run a test on it today and try to remember to post the results here. If I forget, please fell free to PM me.

I bought TYW Stone Armor tile sealer almost two years ago. (They are all the penetrating kind, right?) I have since used them up to seal my shower floor tiles and grout (the floor tiles are the kind that needs sealing). Now I want to do another round of sealing, but have just found out the products showing on the store page are different now. So what kind should I buy this time? Thank you.

Friday I sealed two test boards, one with Stone Armor approx. 2 - 2 1/2+ years old. The other with Stone Beauty, again approx. 2 - 2 1/2+ years old. Both were full unopened cans by the way with the white tape seal still around the lid.

Both liquids were clear with no visible signs of sedimentation. Applied two coats of each at 4-hour intervals. Let all that dry out thoroughly overnight and tested with liberal quantities of water.

Near as a person can tell, the results are excellent with no visible signs of water penetration or darkening of the grout. Every thing looks A-OK far as I'm concerned.

Mike,
Thanks for the update! Our plan is to start sealing grout today, so I'll go ahead and use the Stone Armor I have.

This is not the product you ask about but I have some gallon cans of Mex Seal and Stone Glamor that are around 13 years old. The remaining product appears to be good. I believe these are both solvent based.
