So how many of you guy's have done things at your house that seem a little over the top, just because you can??

I have never posted this on any other forums I belong to, but I think this group would be more likely to understand..

This is a backsplash in by garage on the wet wall, it's a porcelain tile with questec metal pyramid tiles cut in & a stone pencil molding wrapping around three sides..

So what are some of the over the top things you guys have done in your own homes??

I can't really say I have on my own house lol. Besides time,it's hard to get motivated to do something on my own house as far as fancy...maybe cuz it's a freebie lol.

Standard tile/stone in my house, nothing to it really, other than my wife designed our dinky kitchen/backsplash.

It was a challenge,to save the backsplash, and remodel with new cabinets AFTER the backsplash was installed lol. I also cheaped out,and used the porcelain floor tile on the countertop. It was free,so was an easy decision for me lol.

I do not have any pics of it, but my family has gone overboard with "leftover" through the years. For instance, we did a lot of quarry tile when I worked for my Dad in high school. With a years worth of leftovers, we pulled a mud floor in the garage and installed the tile. Garage slopes to a center drain and to the outside. When snow is on the vehicles, it thaws and drain outside of the garage. That side of the garage is the greenest patch of grass in the yard.

My uncle was doing a Western Steer steakhouse a few years back. The guy installing the stainless steel backsplash in the kitchen did not notify any body that he was coming in over the weekend to install the splash. My uncle had enough flat tile to tile his enclosed patio floor, one wall with a built in grill and then made a mudset table and tiled it. Of course, this was done probably back in the 70s.

Another uncle saved all the leftover 4x4 wall tile for a few years and did all the walls in the kitchen and laundry room. This same uncle built a mudset tub out of tile and rounded all the corners with a small ball. Used 1x1 in the tub. He recently replaced it, the tub started to leak after close to 30 years. This is my father's second oldest brother, he has been retired for a few years and just recently celebrated his 70 b-day. :clap1:
