Are their any problems that could come with using a roofing nailer to fasten the backer board down over the thinset. I've always used screws but was reading on the professional board that some use nails. My nail gun fires a 1-1 3/4" smooth shank round head roofing nail.
Also what criteria is used to decide what thickness cbu to use?

now that I've finally ponied up for John's book I can ask my dumb questions while its in transit!

Hi Chris, welcome! No problem using roofers. 1 1/2" is the norm. The thickness is 1/2" for wall and floors, 5/16" for floors.
