Nice to see ya stop by again Todd... dont forget your roots while you go
off forgetting all of us. Lots of new folks joining could use your wisdom
from time to time. I can see the attention to detail in that hobby of yours.
I bet its rewarding when you complete a section youve been workin on.
Enjoy the retirement.

Hard to forget my roots when my shed and truck are still full of tools :D

I appreciate your concern guys and i am still around keeping an eye on ya'll.

As to my experience being needed around here, I think the folks are in very good hands.
Both the staff and the online Pro's are most capable and i think ive answered most everything i can at least once and all anybody need do is search through 10,000 + posts LOL
Take care guys, help each other out and never ever sell your knowledge and expertise for less than its worth...............Rumor has it that tile sales are up and qualified professionals are way down.
So based on the laws of Supply and Demand, its time for you to give yourselves a raise!!! :)

Remember, those 1.50-2.00 a s/f guys can only do so much and if you let them do enough, they'll be battered and broken in no time :D
Better them than you!!! :lol1:

Very nice Todd. I don't know anything about that stuff but I can see that a ton of work went into that. :)

Now, I think we're all going to chip in and buy you a new blade for your tablesaw. Or did you cut that plywood with a dry diamond blade? :p

opiethetileman
02-24-2006, 04:20 PM
Yeah todd where is the felker wharehouse and the John bridge shack on the railroad route. Now that would be combing old with the new. maybe even throw a CTEF building in there too.

Todd your a musician so heres some lyrics for you to ponder whilst
you make your magic with the hobby

Once upon a time there was an engineer
Drove a locomotive both far and near
Accompanied by a monkey who would set on a stool
watchin everything the engineer would pull.

One day the engineer wanted a bite to eat
left the monkey sittin on the drivers seat
monkey pulled the throttle, locomotive jumped
the gun and did ninety miles an hour down the main line run

Big locomotive right on time
Big locomotive comin down the line
Big locomotive number 99
left the engineer with a woried mind
:yeah:
I like alot of music, including folk :shades:
Trains are the topic of tons of folk songs, i figger
its fitting, have fun todd

Edit: I almost forgot.... your work looks awsome man :tup2:

02-24-2006, 11:19 PM
That was a fun lil ditty Jack :)

Opie, ya let the cat outa the bag......next one up is right up an old tileguys alley, a retired tileguy that is.
hows JB's General Store and Mercantile grab ya.
It sits on a corner of two intersecting rural roads with gas pumps out front (oh about the 1925-30 model pumps) A lean too attached on one end sports a sign Patty's Diner Fried Chicken to go............and seperated by a small alley on the right is a lil brick hovel with a sign says Alberts. the little alleys got a wood gate you step through and steps leading up above JB's to Alberts apartment. Nobody really knows what albert business is cept story is he fixes stuff, all kinds of stuff.........( in reality he generally tears stuff apart an ol JB spends his nights under the glow of an old coleman lantern trying to put STUFF...................back together :D

Glad you guys enjoyed the pics, I cant do much but i do what i can and I do feel better than i did before the surgery :)
Seems someone likes the diorama, it went from 50 to 120 to 147.50 in the first 12 hours.
They do take time but its one thing i enjoy doing and it does take care of my need to create ;)
Cya soon guys.......................and gals :)

Nice work man, and the bid is at $147 is that even close to what you are wanting for it.
Obviously I know nothing about it, but I can definately tell you put a lot of work inta it.
What is the actual size of that piece?

tileguytodd
02-24-2006, 11:22 PM
Oh Dave, I cut that with the skill saw and it had the CBU cutting blade in it.
Almost had to go dig in the truck for the new blade but i jus barely made it :D :D :D
The new Blades on now though :)

I keep tryin' ta tell ya she spells it "Patti." :)

Nice work, Todd. I especially like the spring grasses popping up along the tracks contrasted by the snow scene behind the piece. Only in Minnesota, eh? ;)

Now just to get my perspective in gear, about how tall is that locomotive?

opiethetileman
02-27-2006, 05:11 PM
John see ya got to look forward too. Being retard now and all. you get to make trains and ruel over them like Todd. hey need to do minature Felker saws on there. He should have a site called " Pimp my Train"

tileguytodd
02-28-2006, 07:22 AM
OK i'll take these 1 at a time. ;)

Levi, I had a 120.00 reserve on that piece. so thats the least i would have taken for it.Its will go higher than what its at, A guy from switzerland wants it and said up to 100.00 in shipping was no problem and he plans on owning it( i think that means he'll bid at the end but we'll see)
The guy who bought my last piece ( the cabin) has commissioned me to do another coal platform like this with a base to his specifications at whatever this one sells for. ( total time in the piece is maybe 16 hours but the second one will take less time)There is very little expense involved, mostly its labor, but in my case I enjoy building these. There is under 10.00 in actual cost of everything thats there including the chunk of plywood.
This piece is 18" x 7.5" (overall)

John, tell Patti i'm sorry ;)
The locomotive is aprox 5" tall total at the stack. That is a SHAY Geared locomotive a T boiler 12 Tonner and was the smallest Lima produced. It would do Grades in excess of 9% with a load.(most railroads try to keep grades to 1.5% or less)and thats one steep grade for a locomotive ;)It was used by mainly logging companies and it was designed for that purpose. Most of these were built narrow gauge meaning 24",30" or 36"(36 being the most common) track measured between the rails.standard gauge track( common stuff you see everyday) is 4' 8 1/2" between the rails.
Thats quite the contrast with that snow in the background isnt it :D

OK, on to the next scene :)

Really great looking stuff Todd. I especially like the forests in the back. :clap1: Good luck with the sale. Want us to bump the bidding gently?

tileguytodd
02-28-2006, 06:00 PM
Sure, run her up tp 500 or so Jim,Just give me your visa number now OK :D :D

I've also just started building myself one of these...........Called a Donkey it was the original Man Made Log Skidder............it came after the horse and Oxen ;)
It was either wood or coal fired steam powered originally but later many were converted to diesel. These were still in use in some area's of the country into the mid fifties!!
They used steam driven Pulleys with heavy cable to pull themselves anywhere and drag logs out to a loading area ( landing). This ones pulling itself out into the woods back in the 1920's :)
