Every bloody time I come back to the site, the avatar is gone!
When I click USER CP it shows the following:
"Do not use an avatar"
I DID click use an avatar and uploaded it, so who is messing up the system?
I'm edited what started off as 'fun' just in case the 'MOD' finds that offensive for some reason.

Eli, I haven't seen the avatar, but a couple of moderators don't think it's in good taste. I forget who they were at the moment, but they were very sure they didn't like it. :)

Good heavens. Are you guys for REAL? I've seen and read worse things on this forum (mud box) than my baby avatar! I was kidding with this thread by the way thinking it was something on my system. Now I know what I'm dealing with, I'm no longer kidding.
I know that John has said a zillion times that this is not a democracy, but it would have been a lot better if this 'famous' mod had written telling me there was a problem. Instead, the avatar was removed so I kept putting it back without realising someone took offense to it. Good grief. You need to really look at some of the suggestive and distasteful stuff that is posted in the mud box.

I never saw the avatar Lady so take this at face value. The Mud Box allows some lee-way on what is proper and what is just damn funny. Outside of here, it needs to be a bit more conservative since you never know who is sitting next to the comp when a parent asks for advice on how to tile their floor.
Since avatars are global, if you post in someone's thread who may have a more conservative position than you, they may be offended. I think the main thing is that your avatar can't be contained in the Mud Box, it will show up in every thread in your post history, and it appears from your post count that you have a pretty long history. So, if someone does a search, they might bitch and moan.
Brush it off. I think smoking babies are funny, well not if they are actually lit on fire smoking, but you know what I mean.

Rick,
It wasn't any worse than some of the stuff posted on the picture thread. If someone is cruising around this forum and has a kid who sees a baby smoking is that going to make their kid smoke???? If so, they've got some major problems because the stuff on television is a lot worse.
Again, the attitude of this 'mod' is what I find most annoying. What does it take to send an IM discussing this? But then again, many mods do not ask someone to remove something, they just remove it....control. We wouldn't want to take that from someone who just might not be able to control anything else in their lives, would we?

EVERYTHING in the Mud Box is in good taste, every deviant bit of it. :D
Listen, I'm not going to go into to it any further, but it was not just one moderator; it was several. It's a judgement call, and that's what they are here for. As I said, I have not seen the avatar, but I back the moderators. I suggest we move on to some other wholesome and tasteful topic. :)
Can we still see Miss Canada again? Or the waterfall girl? :D

I know i will miss her i guess ill just have to pack up and go remodel her house. Well Lg I hope I didnt crush ur roses stay in touch.

I'm surprised that you'll agree with something without even seeing it yourself John. I never figured you'd be that way. I understand loyalty, but this is ridiculous. I would have removed it myself had someone notified me. Anyway, why would I have expected a fair hearing in this place?

I REMAIN AMAZED THAT WE FIND OFFENSIVE RELATIVELY UNIMPORTANT MATTERS AND VIEW THEM AS CRITICAL TO "SAVING OR MAINTAINING OUR CULTURE AND SOCIETY", YET WE HAVE GONE SOOOOOOO FAR OFF OF THE BASIC PRINICIPLES OF, YES , THE CONSTITUTION AND THE BILL OF RIGHTS THAT IT IS LAUGHABLE. WE EITHER LAUGH OR DESPAIR AT WHAT HAS APPARENTLY BECOME THE NEOCON WAY OF CENSORSHIP AND WHAT IS POLITICALLY CORRECT. Every bloody time I come back to the site, the avatar is gone!

People it's a goofy picture that some people complained about, so in the interest of popular opinion it was taken down, then, as a joke it was manipulated, when that joke backfired the incident was ignored, but blew into a ridiculous unimportant fiasco. Many avatars are removed, people are banished, ignored, and also put up with.In the interest of having a free site for everyone(within certain parameters)we try to accept as much diverse interests as we can, but some things bother us, and some we put up with.I, too had been rebuked in the beginning..i frankly was a little obnoxious(not that anything on this thread was),and got played with...i'm a big boy, i can take it, and frankly deserved it.We moderators, frankly pull some outrageous pranks on each other that you in the shallow end never know about, and i guess it may have overspilled onto the shallow end...especially with someone as well known as our LG,a frequent visitor, and contributor...but it should be known, this practical joke is just that, and should not be taken this seriously.Lighten up, folks. This will always remain the friendliest DIY site, practical jokes and all! :goodluck: :dunce:  :D :stick: :clap2: :goodpost:

Everyone, please allow me to try and put things in perspective here. I have a slightly different frame of reference from almost everyone here because I have been with John since very nearly the beginning. By the beginning I mean near the beginning of the first forum, which when I think back to it I realize how truly primitive it was and how much this current forum has advanced. John can correct me, but I think his first version of a forum (and there have been several) was from the '99/'00 timeframe. On the internet, this makes it sound like talking about when our Grandparents (or Flatfloor) were children. :)
I was John's first moderator, and this was in the time when all we got each day were a few Q's such as "what kind of backer board should I use in my shower?" I remember when we had the "inspiration" to get a DIY'er to post a picture of the problem they were having because we couldn't exactly figure out what was going on in his/her bathroom. I can remember mailing John pictures so he could scan them and post them, because I didn't have digital camera, and almost no one else did, either. There was no mud box, no smilies, no avatars, no PM's, no nothing except a very cumbersome forum software that made the forum fairly difficult to use.
Well, look at what this Forum has become. There are several hundred thousand posts, tens of thousands of threads, and thousands of registered members. There are 100's of people that stop by here on at least a semi-regular basis.
I don't do anything officially around here anymore, and don't know what goes on behind "closed doors" with the moderators, but my guess is that this avatar in question was considered to be something that didn't add anything constructive to the Forum, and since no one has the time or interest to pursue an elaborate, judicial sort of process for removal...the thing was removed.
Why should anyone here expect anything else? It's just a tile forum run by unpaid volunteers. It's not a legislative body following parlimentary procedures.
No one was flamed, insulted, violated, or impugned. It's just an avatar, folks. There is no contract for service, no promises made to provide service, no obligations on the part of anyone at John Bridge Forums to do anything for anyone. Use the forum at your own risk and don't expect anything from it. It's not the first time something like this was removed and it won't be the last. And sometimes users are banned altogether, and for reasons that the general public isn't privy to and might or might not agree with even if they knew.
When I was moderator there was stuff that we removed on a weekly basis that was truly offensive-vulgar, profane, rude, despicable, insulting. There were things that were pormographic and things that possibly could have brought legal action against John if he allowed some of the shit that was posted here to remain.
LG has voted with her feet and left. She sees this as a personal assault , and others see this as a big soap opera, a huge injustice, a real mess.
It's just an avatar, folks. The companies with banners around the perimeter are paying the bills now, and guess what might happen if someone posted something that a sponsor didn't like? John might yank something that is contrary to what his paying customers want to see (or he might not). In that case it is just business, and I totally understand a "just business" excuse, but I know that wouldn't square with a lot of people. Again, it doesn't really matter because it is John's Forum, John's rules.
Let's try to get everything pack in perspective and let this pass. For those of you that are in contact with LG, I hope you can present this point of view to her so that she will understand...not necessarily agree, but understand.
