wondering if 3/4 inch ply with 1/2 inch ply opposing seams glued then 1/4 inch mortar under 1/4 inch hardy-backer then meduim bed mortar for 12x12 travertine is enough flooring so no cracking?

Whats the joist system and longest unupprted span ? Run it through the deflecto.

Yep it should be just fine, only if the joist deflection exceeds l/720. Let us know if you need help using the Deflectolator.
I use Ditra on those because of the height & because I think it does better crack isolation (it's flexible) than CBU; and you don't need any more strength with the 2 layers of plywood.

If you glue the 2nd layer of plywood, use full spread glue or glue-like mortar. No beads of glue allowed. They hold the plywood up, creating voids & imperfect contact.

Kev, Remember to check our deflectolator for allowable joist deflection. Ditra is a good call. ;)

what about mud bed application here how thick does it need to be i ve floated pans before and smaller baths?
