I'm wondering if anyone else has had experience w/ sealing their slate floors w/Jasco gloss and seal. We just did our kitchen floors in the 18X18 tiles. (It's the Indian slate....beautiful colors) Anyway, I pre-sealed about 15 of them (prior to grouting) and then checked out this forum. I read a thread about someone using Jasco on his Saltillo tiles and found out that the sealer is junk. Does anyone else have an opinion, based on personel experience, on this sealer? I applied one coat of the gloss and seal. It looks great. Brings out the color and puts a nice sheen on the stone.

If it is junk, is it too late to put a different sealer on the others? I'll try to match the sheen. And, can I put the different sealer on top of the Jasco tiles? Thx....Beth.

Hi Beth, Welcome! :)

I'm not familiar with the Jasco products you mentioned. I don't recommend mixing products. It's better to strip the Jasco, or match it, but don't apply another product over it.

I have never had a problem with the Jasco Tile Gloss. We use it very often as a final topcoat over Saltillo and it adheres very well and lasts very long. In fact I prefer it to its more expensive cousin- Aqua Mix- because we have used both to a great extent and the Jasco just sticks better. It is easier to apply the Aqua mix because it foams much less than the Jasco but it's worth the extra effort. Just apply light coats and don't leave any foam bubbles to dry. The only time I don't recommend Jasco or the Aqua mix is on an outdoor installation. Indoors you are ok.

I installed about 1400 squares of tumbled noche limestone in my house. I put on McKlousky Man of War, Patio and Stone sealer, with a sprayer and mop. Its an acylic base top coat in a satin finish. Once you go this way, its not easy to go back, so make sure this is the look you want. I didnt like it at first, it was too glossy and you could see it on the surface and puddled up in the grout lines. Years later, I think it was the best thing, my floor is absolutly water, oil, acid, bleach, proof. And it looks natural, cant tell its there. If the jasco is also water or acylic base and not oil based, it should be compatabe with others. Try going over some spare tiles with different products and see if anyting bubbles or peels or just doesnt want to dry.

No don't mix topical products on a new installation. Follow Hectors advice.
