I need some advice on coating travertine. I had my new travertine floor sealed with IMPREGNATOR PRO about a year ago. The finish is still pretty shiny, but in heavy traffic areas it is losing its luster.
I believe it's time to apply a coating to the surface, but I do not know what to use.
Can someone advise me what type of coating I can use that will restore and keep the luster? I believe Impregnator Pro is solvent based. What is safe to put over it?
Thank you.

Hi Larry,
There is a trade called stone restoration, they use diamond abrasives and polishing powders to return genuine mineral lusters. I am one of the stone polishing purists that never advise the use of topical materials, they tend to be short term.

Hi Larry
Michael is right. Your stone is not shiny because something was applied to it. It was mechanically polished to attain that luster you like so much. In the high traffic areas the polished surface has worn down and has become rough, so the shine has gone. The only way to get back the shine would be to hire a stone restoration professional to rehone and polish your floor.
If somebody tries to sell you on "crystallization" - show him the door and keep looking for a real pro. He might not be inexpensive, but the results will be superb.

Hi Larry, Welcome! :)
Can you post a picture of your floor?
Was the original travertine polished, honed, or tumbled?
Even though Impregnator Pro is a penetrating sealer, I have seen overapplication on tumbled and honed surfaces result in a soft sheen.
If the orginal stone was polished or high honed, then I agree with Michael and Adrianna to have the floor professionally restored.
Without personally seeing your floor, it's difficult to properly evaluate. The more details and photos you give, the more we are able to help, and give sound advice.
