New construction. Installed 800 sq.ft of Indian slate. Used a sanded Charcoal Gray grout. Before we could get it covered, other trades tracked in mud galore all over the slate. Since then, the make-ready people mopped it a few times and the tiles themsleves are decent but the grout is now a light beige in places because of the dirt. What can I use to clean the grout so that the original Charcoal color is revived ?

Also, we want to seal it with a sealer/stone enhancer. Any suggestions on brand/type ?

Hi Bear :)

I see that you've been around for a few years, and still haven't posted your name. Would you please take the time to share it with us? :shades:

As far as cleaning your slate, I suggest a tile & stone specific high alkaline cleaner (such as Stone Tech KlenzAll).

The keys for successfull cleaning are as follows:
1. TEST small area first.
2. Allow adequate dwell time on the surface, without allowing the product to dry.
3. Agitate with stiff brush.
4. Pick up soiled solution with wet vac.
5. Rinse, agitate, vac soiled water.
6. Let dry, seal.

Sealer choice isn't so easy. There are many quality products on the market. I suggest trying to procure some sample sizes, and doing more TESTs. One of my favorites is Sparks Stone Glamor. It will fill the pores, enhance the color, and bring up a gloss finish. If you want a natural look, impregnators such as Stone Tech Impregnator Pro, or Bulletproof can be used.

My name is Barry. I joined a few years ago when I was doing the tile work in my kitchen. We subsequently sold that house and built a new one. Thanks so much for the tips and for all of your help, both today as well as back then. You guys are awesome....
