Hi, my name is Laura and I am new to this site. I have been reading about the grout stain and sealer available at the TYW store, but I cannot find it. Can someone send me a link?
Thanks

My beautiful, very expensive green and off-white bathroom tile has been grouted with the wrong color! I had chosen Hydroment Classic Bone for the grout, which is light and off-white, and the tile store was out of it. My husband bought what I thought was Classic Bone from Home Depot, but he really bought Mapei's Bone color, which is a brown shade. Our tile setter used it, and I have been kicking myself for not double-checking the colors.
Since this is the wrong color, and to me it looks awful, I want to color the grout to the Classic Bone shade. This means we have to lighten it. This is a huge task, since this grout is on a 10 foot countertop and backsplash and a shower that has been completely tiled, even on the sloped ceiling. I don't even know if we can use grout colorant or stain on a wet area.
Per Mike2's suggestion, I am adding more details about the project
1. The tile is ceramic glazed tile on the countertop, backsplash, and shower walls, ceiling, and vertical sides of the bench. It is Bellissima tile from Bedrosian's, which is quite similar to American Olean's Cache line.
2. The floor and bench top are porcelain tiles, used to be less slippery. The floor is 2x2 mosaic. I don't recall the name of the tile or the company. It was an instock tile from Bedrosian's.
I am sick about this. Can I get any advice? Thanks so much!

Hi Laura, welcome. :)
You must have been reading a very old thread as we have not carried grout stain in the Store for quite some time now.
There are however other brands of grout colorants and stains the Restorantion pros here might recommed for you to use. But first tell them more about your installation; type of tile, grout, location within the house, and what you hope to achieve/problem to solve through the use of a stain.

Thanks, I already started a new thread about my mistake, but I'll go and add more details.

I'll merge these two threads together Laura. That way everything is all together which helps us a lot.

That will help a lot Laura. Maybe tell them also what your grout spacing is, i.e.,
1/16", 1/8", etc.
In the meantime while you are waiting for one of the Restoration Pros to respond (& that's not me) go to this Aqua Mix website and familiarize yourself with some of the products on the market. Aqua Mix Grout Colorant & Stain (http://www.aquamix.com/for_home_use/products/product_group.asp?pgid=8374)

The grout lines are 1/8 inch for most of the tiles. The lines on the listello inserts seem a little narrower, as well as the 13x13 porcelain tiles on the bench. Maybe 1/16?

I've used the Aquamix, as Mike suggested,it's a very good product. But it is tough to do really tight joints,at least for me, and make them look good.I'm guessing your grout is dark enough that it is picture framing your tile?I say this cause i wonder if staining it is really worth it, given the fact that it will most likely start darkening in color from use, anyway. Also, the listellos could be very hard to do,depending on the style. But if you're intent on doing it, just get the small can, cause it goes a long way,and use a tiny applicator,to aid in clean up.And patience!

Dave, thanks for the advice. I went to the house today and noticed that some of the grout was lighter in areas - due to drying. I guess I will wait a couple of days to see if I can live with the color. Relatives didn't think it looked bad when they saw it...but I know what I was wanting. :bang: I will try the Aquamix if I can't live with it.

I used aqua mix colorant. Time consuming but did a good job. :yeah:
