Hi

I have recentily bought my house which has over 130m of slate tiles throughout the main living areas..
The slate is mainly green and rough in texture..
The sealer that is on it has obviously gone yellow with age, and the grout is so dirty that it looks like cement...

What is the easiest way to remove the sealer and clean the grout, and bring the stone back to life

Thank you so much

Hi Kit, Welcome! :)

Hope that's your first name. If not please correct me.

Let's take this one step at a time.

We need to do some TESTs to find out what type of topical coating is currently on the floor. First try a high alkaline floor wax stripper. If that doesn't work, we're going to have to get into the nasty stuff.

If the sealer has gone yellow, it sounds like you have something like a urethane on your stone.

Also, if you have a cleft finish (the rough, ridgy finish) there will be no easy way to clean the floor. Do some test patches with paint strippers, dull putty knives and stiff bristle brushes (preferably not metal bristles) to see what works best for you. Keep in mind, too anything acidic might damage your tile, so test for acid reactivity too and pick your products accordingly.
