I was told by a tile layer that he uses construction adhesive between his backerboard and subfloor when he does new construction. I'm going to do the floors in my house that is being built now. Any ideas about what his reasoning might be?

Thanks,
Dick

its wrong!! the mfg. of the board and the Tile Council of North America
both say a thin set.

If this is the 800 sq ft you posted about earlier.... just follow Hardi's instructions and you will do fine. The reason for the thinset beneath the Hardi is to firmly fill voids... those in the floor and those in the Hardi itself...

Not sure how glue is gonna accomplish that task.

He said that for my shower surround he would simply us 1/4 backerboard screwed directly to the greenboard and then trim the edges with scrap when he's done. Shouldn't there be some waterproofing material in there?

Thanks all.

Sounds like you need to find a different installer..........
