A great \"step by step\" article! Is it possible to build a seat in a shower with tiled walls but the base will be prefab, one piece type, ie a cultured marble one piece or an acrylic one piece,...

Good question, and a good follow up topic to John's Monument Method....
What I do for acrylic bases is to frame the bench/seat/shelf/etc outside of the one piece base, cover the framing with either cement backer board or mud, and waterproof the entire thing with a liquid applied membrane or a sheet applied membrane.
John's method doesn't need waterproofing because the block and mud sit inside the shower pan , and any water that makes its way into the masonry will leak down into the pan. I don\'t think it would be advisable to build with concrete block on top of an acrylic shower base.
Examples of waterproofing membranes I have used: Laticrete 9235 and Floor and Wall Watertight, Summitville S9000, Bonsal WP6000, Schluter Kerdi, Noble Company TS. There are other brands that may be available in your part of the country.

A shower with a pre-fab base would be a candidate for the \"Better Bench.\" There\'s another thread on that.
Rob\'s system is also the way to go on a shower like that. Maybe we can get Rob to do an article on that subject.
But let\'s not turn this place into another advice board, either. :)
