If we were talking spirits, we'd have to call it 51 proof. ;)

I've drank some 12%, and even 18%, i think, but they all tasted like cognac, they were pretty bad...i preferred to dump Jim Beam in my beer. :yipee:
What John said, it's 50.8 proof. That ain't beer, and it ain't even malt liquor. The yeast dies off because of the alcohol content before it can get to that percentage to qualify as beer.
Not that I'm a brewmeister, but I made many a gallon of homebrew back in the day. Lost my hydrometer years ago . . . they just use 'em in wine in these parts here. :(
I'd still like to try it though, but that's the mick in me, not the brewmeister. :D

The article claims it's the strongest beer in the world, but I must disagree... The last time I made it over to Paris I had a bavarian beer that was 28%... I just cant remember the name of it at the moment... I even brought a bottle home for a friend...
Yeah, yeah... I drank plenty of wine while there too.....
We had the first tasting of a barley wine that I brewed up two months ago... Alcohol was about 8 percent... That's more than enough for me.. The latest batch is a pale ale that'll run around 6%...

A little champagne yeast added to the fermentor towards the end of primary takes care of that problem. I've done it a few times, but I never enjoy a beer with a "burn."
George,
Ahh, I never knew that's how they did that.
I'm with you on the 'burning beer' :)

I was in Germany a few years back during Octoberfest which to my surprise was actually in September (Go Figure??) and had some of that beer. Now I am pretty much an alcoholic, and can pound the better part of a 6 pack without even copping a buzz, but 2-3 German Beers and I was shit faced, and after 5-6, I was puking my guts out behind one of the tents.
I dunno what the % is of that stuff, but it has to be way past 3.2.
Oh, and by the way, interesting bit of trivia--Do you know what song they were singing constantly in most of the tents, including Germany and the Swiss and Italian tents?
...............
...............
Nope, not "In Heaven There is No Beer" Try again........
...............
..............
No, not the Beer Barrell Polka.
..............
..............
Give up? "Country Roads" by John Friggin Denver. Yep, sang it like 3-4 times in both tents. I couldn't friggin believe it. One of the stupiest lamest songs ever made, and these Krauts were singing it, in English, with a very strong German accent, and probably couldn't even speak English, but they knew that John Denver song. Go Figure. One of the worlds biggest mysteries why they would sing that sucky song.

Spent 3 years in Germany, and i too ws a drinker, and also threw up everything i drank the second time i drank there. And the beer was Becks,no stronger than any other....but what you don't know is the water there is the worst in the world...you never saw anyone drinking water, at the time, and even the Rhine has no marine life, just small red worms in it.It may be better now, i don't know.Yeah October fest is in Sept. and Munich is spelled Munchen....I WOULD love to have some of their PommeFrites, and mayo, and a currywurst, though.I was an M.P. and spent a lot of time working the beer fests...which is essentially breaking up fights between drung G.I.'s,i've seen a lot of poor in country newbies so drunk they almost died, at those fests. :)

As far as I'm concerend it's not a party until they start dancing on the tables. Yeah, those were the days. ;)
Never drank water out of the Rhein, but ingested a bunch of ice cubes right along side that river. :D
Oh for the days of drinking beer and eating wurst in Germany. I miss it a lot.
There is a German beer hall that opened recently and it has become my favorite place for a beer. I was there Friday night and they had fresh from Munchen, Oktoberfest special brews.
Was in the Hofbrauhaus in Munchen a couple years ago on a Saturday afternoon. Big soccer game in town that day and the place was full and getting rowdy. Guy got up on the table next to us and when he stood up he hadn't taken into account that the ceiling was quite low in this corner and there was a steel pipe right above the table. He came down into his friends out cold and blood everywhere.
Ever look close at the size of water lines they have around the edge of the room to connect hoses when they clean up at night?
You know what I like the most about German beer is that after three of them my German goes to another level. I can talk to everyone!
Prost

Yep, and after four of them you can dance polkas and waltzes all night long, or until you pass out, whichever comes first. :D
Also went to the wine fest at Bad Durkheim one year. Same beer tents and polka bands, but no beer allowed; only wine served in the beer mugs. Yeah! :D

I think there is a picture on here somewhere of the wine barrel in Bad Durkheim that contains a restaurant. A real wine barrel. :)

That's it, Will. Now there are two pics of it. :)
The surrounding countryside is quite nice, too. In fact, I think it's one of the best parts of Germany. No mountains to speak of but hundreds of quite tall hills, all heavily forested. And, of course, rivers run through there. The village/castle of Frankenstein is up the side of what the Germans would call a mountain not far from Bad Durkheim. ;)
I was stationed in Mannheim, not far down the creek from Bad Durkheim. I also spent six months at Kaiserslautern, which is up country from there. Took my mom, who at the time was my military dependent, to the wine fest. She had a ball and stuck with me into the evening. When the gents started mounting the tables we made our departure. If I hadn't had mom with me, I would have been one of the gents. :D

Now here's a real can of beer. I got this as a present from my brother-in-law while I was in Russia this summer. Its 5.4 % like a regular beer but its slightly larger than normal : 6 litres to be exact. :yipee: :aparty: :loaded: :loaded: :loaded: :aparty:
