View Full Version : Toxic Waste Dump

On the radio this morning they were stating that under current federal guidelines New Orleans qualifies as a toxic dump. With the levee temporarily plugged they are pumping all the contaminated wastewater back into Lake Pontchartrain. So in addition to a toxic dump we are now contaminating the lake and all its surrounding shores.

Will the federal government look the other way on current EPA guidelines to get New Orleans back up and running?

They could put the water in little bottles and ship it to the Sahara. Or maybe a looooooong pipeline that dumps into Antartica. Or maybe they could boil it off as steam :uhh:

Yes,please tell us where to put the water.

Toxic waste dump you say? What is the contamination?

I know that there is urine, vomit and fecal matter in the streets during Mardi Gras.:)

Keep it closer to Texas please. John can deal with it :D

Maybe they could just fill the whole thing in with dirt and start over. That way instead of being 13 feet below sea level they could at least bring it even. Or they could bottle it up and sell it in ebay, get your own bottle of "Hurricane Katrina New Orleans Toxic Water" as a souvenir.

I don’t have a plan and I realize the water has to go somewhere. I also dont think this will be the last thing that we question about what is happening during the rebuilding.

Probably a great place to be in the tile business in about 6 to 8 months. :uhh: :uhh:

Ya think they could fill the N.O. depression with SLC??

I'll bet Cee Exx could engineer it :--)

They should call up the folks over in Venice, Italy to get some pointers on how to rebuild and control water flow.

Venice is sinking http://archives.cnn.com/2000/WORLD/europe/09/02/italy.venice.reut/
and has been for 1,600 years and they are fighting over how to fix it. And you think we are screwed up?

I suspect that the 100 billion dollar price tag will go up. I think all the pollutants are just stuff in people's garages and businesses. A collision repair shop has a bunch of crap that's good for getting rid of dents but very bad for water. Think of all the stuff in your garage that you'd never dump in a lake.

I'd like to know where they are going to put all the construction debri, cars and boats, almost every home is going to have to come down, there's not a landfill within a 1000 miles that will take all this stuff.:)

Maybe when the water dries up, just bulldoze the whole city to the center and burn it, then start over.

Among everything else in the water are two landfills and a toxic waste dump (right in the city), as reported on MSNBC.

These are pictures from New Orleans. I've never water moccasins THAT fat...

Looks like all that toxic waste is having the same effect on the snakes as did it on the Incredible Hulk.

How come they call them mocasins? They don't look like shoes.

I think any water-dwelling snake can be called a "moccasin." These are the cottonmouth variety (because of the white mouth). I think the moccasin name does have something to do with them easily turning into shoes though.

That about tares it. Now I'm sure they should level the place with SLC.

Scary looking creatures.

Flatfloor,

They can be 'converted' into water resistant boots. :D

Big fat swimming snakes kinda creep me out. It's like putting wings on scorpions, not a good idea. I'll take rattlers any day of the week, at least they have a noisemaker :aparty:

I guess pouring millions of tons of dry conrete to encase the city and build on top of it would be cost prohibative. I'm glad I'm not the one who is in charge of fixing that problem. :(

First, you gotta fix the levees, or the SLC will run out.....

Sheesh! Ain't none of you been payin' attention to Flatfloor!
