Who is thinking of coming my way to discuss the 'perfect' tile? :yipee:

We have no plans

I'm staying at home, keeping all motor vehicles in the driveway, and tiling the sunroom! I might have to make a run for a little more thinset though. :)

I think I might actually take Labor Day off for the first time in years. Laborers usually don't get off on that day, in case you didn't know. ;)

So what's for din din in Ok City? :)

Clyde, you're getting to be an old pro. Better watch it. :D

Haven't seen the Jerry Lewis Telethon in about 20 years.....looks like I'm going to miss it again. :bang:

Hmm, guess I am going to labor. Actually, been hitting it 7 days a week for about 3 weeks now. One more week to go and 2 weeks off. :yipee: One on a big boat for 7 days and then 7 days around the house. :yipee: :yipee:

The last kid has moved out of the largest bedroom in the house. Patti and I will be painting and fixing it up to become our room. The vacated bedroom we were going to rent to foreign student (we have them from time to time it is a cool extra $525 per month.) May wait and see if we can offer it to someone who is homeless fom the gulf area. Like maybe they will be a student who can't go to school down there and can get in up here we could provide a room.
We will see.
Think I will also try and carve out a little time to paint for fun and strum the guitar.
We were going to go for a long walk one day but last weekend I tore a hamstring trying to load sheetrock by myself at the box store. Today is the first day it hasn't hurt like real bad, just a little and the black and blue area on the back of the leg is huge.

I'll pick up J.B.'s torch and labor for him on labor day, and least I hope to, unless tile doesn't come in or homeowner's put their foot down. :)

My boss is a ruthless slave driver, no paid vacations, no paid holidays, even made me work last X-mas eve and the day after.

The other boss (wifey) tells him otherwise from time to time. :)

Mark, have fun at NASCAR, where are they running, out Fontana way or the one close to Monrovia/Pasadena?

:yipee: Goin' elbows up and hammer down at Ventura Raceway! We got a sprint car double header on tap, and the best litle dirt track in America is only 10 minutes from the house. Lotsa muscle, mud and beer - dirt tracks are tops in race excitement. Gonna be a thriller... Santa Maria Bandits vs. VRA sprints in head to head competition, plus the Dwarf Car Western Regionals.

Anyone near Ventura goin'? I can hook you up with good seats :)

Kewl DaveG!

I had the pleasure of pit crewing for a sprint car team at Ascot and the CRA (no wings)tour. A small poor guy team. Fun stuff. Methonol fumes still make me cry though.

Have fun,

Mark

Dang shame Ascot ain't around any more, was really a fine track. Haven't had the fun(?) of crewing for a team, seems like hectic, hard work, but fun. Sure do like the new CRA/SCRA class of 410 cu. in. aluminum block sprints. Lotsa new, young aggressive drivers who ain't afraid to take a chance. Ventura is only 1/5 of a mile oval, yet they can get near 90 mph in the blink of an eye. The track is short enough so' there's always something happenin'. Mebbe we'll see ya there sometime!?

WORKING on labour day? That isn't right. I remember being in Mexico for their labour day which is in May and the workers were off. They had different marches and rallies. It was quite interesting to watch.

DaveG,
I believe we ran Ventura. It was probably 10-12 years ago, so I don't know if it's the same track. I don't even remember the car number, but the owner was Jim Ruth Sr, and his son was the driver. Just a little outfit who had regular jobs outside of racing. I think Sr. raced with A.J. Foyt at Ascot back in the day, with no cages and half their bodies sticking up out of the car.

I doubt if Ruth is still racing, haven't talked to him in ages, but if you go into the pits, and smell Black Cavendish burning and follow the scent to a tall gray gentleman with specs and a pipe, that's Jim Ruth Sr. and if you told him Mark Haley from Anaheim and AGSE says 'hi' I'd appreciate it. :)

Have a blast at the sprinters,
Mark

I'm finishing the building of a halfpipe for my skateboard-addicted 9 year old, Ian. He is having his 9th birthday party Saturday so I've got to get it out of the garage and assembled tonight. The halfpipe is 8' wide by 24' long. Labor day is my actual birthday so I will not be working that day at all.

Taking the boat out fishing, and yes, paying $4.80 a gallon on the water to run it. :bang: :bang:

Joe, hurry up, it's 8:02 PM! Are you done yet?

BTW - Are you going with a couple layers of thin plywood over a curved frame to form the bends of the ramps?

I'll give ya one guess as for what I'll be doing. :D

Musky,

My guess is toting one of those 'anti-fishing' or 'fish killer' signs around the lake with the activist group?

Alright, alright, gimme two guesses. :D

We, I guess that's Me, Myself, and I, are working. Just the thing to do on labor day.

Hi Kurt,

Halfpipe is done. On time I might add. ;)

Curved frame from 3/4" ply with 2x4's on 12" centers. 3/8" exterior ply bends just fine, used 2 layers though so it is nice and solid.

I have a 12 ft sliding glass patio door unit that I'll be taking out and replacing with French doors. It'll be a blast. I'll also be here talking to you fine folks. :)

Masonite/hardboard makes a great top layer for skateboard ramps. Although rain affects it and it swells. Countersink the (deck/stainless) screws whatever material the top is.

Fiberglass resin is nice too, and withstands weather, but the 'slickeryness' needs to be knocked down with some sand paper.

Neighborhood kid's parents are signing a waiver? Kind of a joke, but 'kinda' not. It's a shame a kid can't bust himself/herself up anymore for doing something 'kidlike' and not have parents want money for it.

I had a lot of fun on homebuilt half-pipes and empty pools (take out the light and plug the hole) when I was a kid. Limped home more than once, but always returned for more "fun" :)
hope your chip off the block enjoys it,
Mark

Ramp Armor, http://www.ramparmor.com/, is better than masonite. Its more water resistant.

We've just been hanging out doing nothing really. I had wanted to paint and get the light fixtures up in the bathroom, and buy a new door for the closet.

Isn't labour day for working? I keep trying to get Gerard to WORK on the house (with me of course) but he isn't buying it
