I attended a memorial mass today at the same hospital where my father died. This poem was read and shared, and I thought I might add it here for others to read.
Perspective
I am standing on the seashore.
A ship spreads her sails to the morning breeze,
and starts for the ocean. I am watching her
until she fades on the horizon, and someone at
my side says, "She's gone---!"
"Gone where?" The loss of sight is in ME -
not in her. Just at that moment someone says
"She's gone," there are others watching her coming.
Other voices take up the glad shout,
"Here she comes!"
That is dying.

Very nice thoughts in the poem. Glad you are doing better.
My wife of almost 37 years passed away four years ago today. I've moved on and accepted it. Remarried two years ago and very happy.
A very dear family friend lost her battle to cancer yesterday. Very sad. My heart breaks for her family.

So sorry to hear about your friend. I'm doing better, but the tears still come. I went to the pharmacy that my father used, and the pharmacists all said that he was a wonderful person. They told me some of the stories he shared, and talked about how he was always smiling, making jokes and genuinely showing concern for others. It was all true. Then one of the pharmacist said I reminded him of my father, and I felt so proud and happy :)
But we did have a bad streak in us, the old man and I, and that is the stubborness and being unable to forget even when we tried to forgive :( I'll have to work on that, won't I? :twitch:

Opie, if you don't mind me asking this, is this a memorial mass for your mother? You said you're having a funeral again and I'm a bit confused.

Putting Things into Perspective
Should you find it hard to get to sleep tonight;
Just remember the homeless family who has no bed to lie in.
Should you find yourself stuck in traffic; don't despair.
There are people in this world for whom driving is an unheard of privilege.
Should you have a bad day at work;
Think of the man who has been out of work for the last three months.
Should you despair over a relationship gone bad;
Think of the person who has never known what it's like to love and be loved in return.
Should you grieve the passing of another weekend;
Think of the woman in dire straits, working twelve hours a day, seven days a week, for $15.00 just to feed her family.
Should your car break down, leaving you miles away from assistance;
Think of the paraplegic who would love the opportunity to take that walk?
Should you notice a new gray hair in the mirror;
Think of the cancer patient in chemo who wishes she had hair to examine.
Should you find yourself at a loss and pondering; what is life all about, what is my purpose?
Be thankful.
There are those who didn't live long enough to get the opportunity.
Should you find yourself the victim of other people's bitterness, ignorance, smallness or
insecurities;
Remember, things could be worse. You could be them!!!
Live each day to the fullest and always be thankful for the things you have......
Don't ever take your friends, your family, or your health for granted.
They are precious gifts.

I can't sleep, so I might as well read something inspirational and share it with you guys. Here is a beautiful poem which I plan to read at a mass we're having for daddy on November 16th (his birthday).
In Memory of You
I find an old photograph
and see your smile.
As I feel your presence anew,
I am filled with warmth
and my heart remembers love.
I read an old card
sent many years ago
during a time of turmoil and confusion.
The soothing words written then
still caress my spirit
and bring me peace.
I remember who you used to be
the laughter we shared
and wonder what you have become.
Where are you now,
Where did you go,
When the body is left behind
and the spirit is released to fly?
Perhaps you are the morning bird
singing joyfully at sunrise,
or the butterfly that dances
so carelessly on the breeze
or the rainbow of colors
that brightens a stormy sky
or the fingers of afternoon mist
delicately reaching over the mountains
or the final few rays of the setting sun
lighting up the skies
edging the clouds with a magical glow.
I miss your being
but I feel your presence,
In whatever form you choose to take,
however you now choose to be.
Your spirit has become for me
a guardian angel on high
guiding, advising, and watching over me.
I remember you.
You are with me
and I am not afraid.
