Hi, new member here  , been lurking/sifting through posts, a bit for the past month, gaining alot of knowledge from the informative threads and decided to join today :)
I've been working on my mother's kitchen for the past couple weeks, I've layed down 1/4inch hardibacker, with fortified thinset from custom building products, and got done taping the joints/seams up the other day.The subfloor under the hardibacker was 1/2 inch plywood, and that part of the kitchen floor is ready to be tiled.
The issue I have is with a tiny little addition that was added to the kitchen back in the 80's or so, the area is only about 40 sq feet and slopes a bit less than 3/4's of an inch. The slope begins where the kitchen , meets the tiny little mudroom (addition).
The slope is a result of a carpentry error, (it's an old home, pre WWII) but the floor itself is solid.
My question is do I use normal latex primer/sealer on the plywood floor? Second, do I staple down the metal lath or let it float on the plywood, and 3rd whats the best tool to level such a small area? I have a couple of trowels and some big taping knifes, or could I just use a 2x4 as a screed. BTW, The SLC I am using is levelquick by custom building products, good up to an inch.
Thanks in advance ,Kevin

Hi Kevin, Glad to have ya. ;)

I sort of hope you made a mistake in identifying your subfloor as 1/2 in. plywood. I hope that's not the case. You should have more subfloor than that. Also, go ahead and tell us about the floor framing underneath -- size and spacing of joists, overall span.

The slc will level itself. You'll need to dam up all avenues of escape, becuase the stuff will find them and ooze through. :)

Thanks John,
yeah, my mistake, I have more floor than just that :) , I removed 2 vinyl floors, and 1/4 inch plywood floor, what I kept and laid the hardibacker on, was 1/2" plywood floor which was screwed down to the old wooden floor boards(the original floor).
The Joists is a plenty complicated matter for me to discuss, alot of retrofitting has been done over the years, the joists are spaced 15 inches apart ,they span about 24 feet across, but they have been reinforced all over the place, it's solid, no spring at all.
Is any latex primer fine to prime the plywood floor for the SLC, and should the lath be nailed down or just floated on the plywood?
Thanks
