View Full Version : Mexican Tile Sealer
We have just finished days of hard work totally stripping off the years of sealer on approx. 2000 sq/ft of the outdoor pool patio Mexican tile. It is totally down to bare tile and very clean.
Question I have is what sealer is the best for exterior applications that will last in the Florida sun & rain and not be slippery around the pool areas?
Thanks,

Welcome to the Forum Jeff.
Hang on while I move your thread over to our Restoration & Sealing Forum. The experts over there have dealt with this question before and will get you headed down the right path. Excellent question by the way and I'm glad you brought it up. After completing all that hard stripping and cleanup work, you certainly don't want to make any mistakes now. :shake:

Hi Jeffery, Welcome! :)
Can you post a picture?
What did it look like before you stripped the tile? Do you have a problem with standing water? Is the pool deck located near any sprinkler zones? How was the tile set (over concrete etc.)? Is there a vapor barrier present?
How do you want the tile to look after it's sealed (wet look or natural)? :shades:
Sealing saltillio tile in a moist enviornment is a tricky proposition, and as Mike said, we don't want you to be dissappointed. :shake:
It had layer/s of old sealer they are totaly gone now, we used chemical strippers, heavy rotary floor machines with stiff brushes and a high power pressure washer to remove all of the stipper. it is down to bare Mexican tile 12" x 12".
Clean as new (just about) It is now drying out. There are some areas that do hold water the 2000 sq/ft pool patio is not perfect but mostly it dries out after rain. Tiles were set on a cement paitio and I do not know if moisture barrier was used when it was built.
The sealer we want should not be slippery but last in the florida sun and rain. Wet look or natural the one that will last and not be too slippery.
Thanks,
Jeff

I'm also in Fl. and on exterior saltillo i usually use an impregnating sealer to retain the look, reduce slippage, and eliminate the need for resealing.Try the TYW store above for impregnating sealer,or shop locally...Aqua mix is also a good sealer...i prefer the water based, myself.Others no doubt will have different opinions. :)
