Hi John,

I have recently retiled my shower. I tiled over existing 1X1 mosaic tile. I used unsanded grout mixed with 1/2 water and 1/2 latex admix. I damp cured the grout for three days. Then sealed with "Tile Lab" sealer with teflon. The grout joints are 1/8 inch wide.
Some areas of the grout gets dark when wet. I saw Davestone's reply to Kingscup on the same topic. I do have some spots that I may not have wiped smooth enough but there are also areas that seem smooth but also get dark when wet. Do I need to dig out the grout that is getting dark? Will it help to apply more sealer? The floor seems to be well sealed (no color change and good drainage) but I used sanded grout on the floor.
I appreciate any advice you have on the situation.

Thanks, Jeff

Jeff,
If your joints darken when they are exposed to water, it's the water that's getting into the grout that's affecting the color. Not to state the obvious but applying more sealer to these areas where it hasn't penetrated as well will help to eliminate the problem.
Does that help?
