I have kind of tiled myself into a corner and need to know what the best solution is to my problem since I know I cannot fix the problem perfectly.

I have a whirlpool tub installed. The wall behind the tub and the tub deck is also tiled, and runs into the shower. Part of the whirlpool tub deck is used as a seat in the shower. The deck is ditra'd and kerdi'd and tiled.

The problem was/is the tile layout for the deck. It just so happens that the layout of the tiles for the deck and wall started at point Z. Now as I create the panels for sides A and B the vertical grout joint at Z will be about 1/2” wide instead of 1/8”. It appears that I should of started my layout ½ tile to the left because of the 135 degree angle. (Kind of like what you do when casing a window)

So what the best way to cover my flub?

1)Keep the 1/2” grout joint at Z so all of the grout joints on panel B line up with the grout joints on the tub desk and well as the back wall?
2)Shift the tiles on panel B ½ tile to the left so the grout joint at Z is 1/8” but the grout joints on panel B don't line up with the grout joints on the tub deck and back wall?
3)Other?

Thanks

Peter

Hi Peter, shifting it over a half tile is no big deal but might look better if you had a liner or some deco pieces at the top of panel B to seperate it from the deck. Have you got anything like that that you have used in the shower that can be introduced into the tub skirt?

Peter, are you fussin over the vertical alignment of the grout joints from the vertical apron "A" with the tub deck? If you are, forget about it. Since it's geometrically impossible to keep em aligned with the deck's grout joints, don't fret it. Either break up the lines with a listello, or something like Davy suggests, or don't worry about it.

Are you installing bull-noses on the top of the deck, or the top of the front faces?

If I'm reading you wrong, please ignore the above. :)

Davy,

Yes I have a listello, however section D is in the shower area and is tiled and grouted. Panel A is outside of the shower and is 1 tile from completion. So if I did some sort of deco piece it would be just on panel B not C or D. I more than likely have to go buy more listellos for panel D, I don't think I have enough spare.

Kurt,

The tiles are 8x12 wall tiles. So the tiles on the back wall to the deck to the apron panel B could have lined up except for my flub. The grout joints on panel C and D don't line up with anything.

I am installing the bulnoses on top of the deck.

Thanks

Peter

I'm not sure I totally understand your situation, but I wondered if you might able the wall tiles diagonally to match the angle. Any chance you could post a pic?

You could break the joint on the skirt and use the bullnose to break up the two areas like Kurt said.

If you are standing these 8x12 tiles up as a soldier course and they happen to also come in a 12x12, you could take a 12x12 and make a piece a little bigger, maybe 8 1/2 x 12. I know that's alot of "ifs". Follow me? :)

No 12x12 available. I will chuck it up to a lesson learned. The joints on the apron will not match the deck. :bang:
