We are installing a granite counter top (Hawaii Green) and want to install a tile backsplash. We have concerns about using tumbled marble because it is so porous and believe that even if we seal it, there could still be a problem because there are so may pits in the tile. Have you had good experience with this type of tile for a backsplash. We love the look but how will it hold up over the years.? Thank you

I can't count the number i've done,in fact i have one in my own house...i mixed five different types of tumbled, then sealed it with enhancing sealer..grouted in the pits, then sealed with enhance again,it turned out great.Unless you try to abuse it, it holds up very well.I also have tumbled in my showers, with the same result. :)

Wow. What service. How often do you have to seal to protect it from getting hit with oil, water or spaghetti sauce? Also, have you ever used a medium dark green granite top (Hawaii Green) with a cream colored tumbled marble backsplash. Our cabinets are Oak. I'm afraid it won't look right? thanks

It depends on the type sealer you use,the longevity you will get,but at least five years on a good sealer, since a backsplash isn't a highly used area, it could last indefinitely. The best remedy for splashing, on splashes, is to wipe them immediately.I haven't combined the colors you mentioned...but i've been doing different shades of BEIGE for fifteen years...(any) colors would be refreshing for me.

You're funny| I know what you mean by BEIGE. Just about everything you see in display rooms have granite tops with the cream brown, gold combo. Looks great but it's every where. I think that's reason enough to get the Hawaii Green granite.....it's gorgeous. My husband is complaining that everything new is green. (not the stove of course.) Thanks again. I'm sure I'll have more questions. Here's one.....What is the best sealer? We don't want to enhance the stone, just seal it. Is that a good idea? Thank. arlynn

I really like the look of the tumbled marble tiles they are making now - they look excellent. I'd never put them on a counter or floor of a kitchen, but a backsplash would be OK. 'Just Say No' to food fights with acidic sauces, which is good advice in general anyway.

Color choice is so personal - if you like it, it is a good color choice. If Martha Stewart shows up for coffee and complains about the color - call her parole officer on her and have her thrown back in the slammer! :)

Tumbled marble may have alot of holes in it but some of it isn't very porus at all. Some is fairly hard and dense. Fill the holes with grout and use a good sealer and you'll be okay. :)
