Tonight my husband left a container of milk sitting on the counter. It had probably been there an hour or so before I found it. When I picked it up to put it away I saw a dark spot on my granite! The carton had sweat and left water on the counter. Everything I have read says do NOT seal Ubatuba...does mine need sealing. Does this mean that it is a poor quality granite? I have had my granite installed for two weeks.
Thanks for the advice.
JOY
That's just like us husbands to go leaving stuff on the counter, acting as if it were a kitchen or some'n. :)
I hope the milk was still salvaged . . . hate to waste good milk. :)
Don't fret JOY, there are lots of good stone pros hanging around here, and they'll fill you in.

It will dry, don't worry about the wet spot, it's just water and it will evaporate. :)
I'm moving this over to the "Cleaning, Restoration, and Sealing Forum" so that you get the proper attention you deserve.

Thanks KG.
Although, my wife never believes that when I say it . . . I guess time to re-seal around here too. :)

But I am worried about other liquids being absorbed into the stone that might stain.

Hi Joy,
Well it sounds as if your Ubatuba does noeed an impreganting sealer applied to it.
Please call the company that provided the counter. I'm sure they will happy to oblige.
Your second concern about it needing an imprgnating sealer when Ubatuba generally doesn't is understandable. The answer is Ubatuba usually does not require an impregnating sealer, sometimes some do.
If you like the material and the absorption is the only problem, rest assured it is easily addressed.

You can tell how absorbent the stone is, roughly, by how much water it absorbs, how deep the color change is, and how long it takes to dry. If it darkens significantly, widens out to indicate that the water spreads inside the stone, and takes a long time to dry, it is telling you it's porous.
If it's porous, not the end of the world. Just that it is a candidate for impregnating sealer. As was mentioned, ubatuba is not usually that porous. But if you got a porous batch, it's in good company.
We have a commercial client with an ubatuba lobby floor. Looks great despite years of hard wear and tear. Dynamite choice for high friction area, in my opinion. 5 year old floor that looks like you laid it last week. Cool.

Thanks for all your posts. I will call my granite company on Monday and see what they say. I can say though, I don't have alot of confidence in them after they told me to polish my granite with Turtle Wax car polish. I have never read on any forum to polish granite with a car wax. I bought some SCI Stone polish but haven't needed to use it yet.

Hi Joy :)
Use an impregnating sealer as Steven and Clay suggest. Don't use wax. Wax leaves a film and attracts dust.
