I just used a petroleum based sealant on my honed slate floor and found there are a few globs of built up sealer on the surface; ie making it rough to the touch. Is there any easy way to get the surface smooth again? Can I buff the surface with anything?

Any suggestions are welcome, thanks.

Wow, Emil, that's some serious globbing. What about the back of the can of sealer, does it say what to clean your tools with, or what to strip it with? You can try to scrape that part with a paint scraper, or maybe rub with the stripper product, let dry then reseal that part.I wouldn't try sandpaper, you'll probably go through to the stone. But i have to wonder what kind of sealer is that thick...we usually use an impregnating sealer. :)

Hi Emil :)

Let us know what product you used. Have you called their tech line?

I used SToneseal #24, a ButanolS product. Its an acrylic waterproof penetrating sealer. I jumped the gun a bit in my assessment and after letting it dry for 24 hrs it seems better. There are still a few areas where residue has formed on the surface, however.

Can I use a petroleum solvent such as paint thinner to remove them? (ie when i look at the reflection of the tile in the light i can see streaks where the residue has been left)
