We recently remodeled our bathroom and everything is now bright and shiny...well....except for the bathtub that we didn't replace. The inside of the tub is a little discolored with some tan stains. The tub is cast iron/porcelain and I don't want to scratch it. Is there a tip from Heloise or something where I can combine some brake fluid and Clorox to get the stains off or is there a magical product out there that does a fine job? I don't really want to paint it or refinish it, I just want to clean it up.....if possible.

Hi Rowiga L)

Still no 1st name? :shades:

Have you tried Iron Out or CLR?

We have had good luck cleaning tubs with Stone Tech's KlenzAll, followed by ST's Restore. Make sure you protect the chrome when using any acidic product.

Thanks John,

I've heard of Iron Out and CLR but haven't tried them. I'll look for these and the StoneTech products then give one of them a shot. I thought maybe some gasoline and an electric buffer....okay, maybe not. I appreciate the help.

If you want to try a combo of products that can be bought at a supermarket, try Ajax and Whink. Whink is a rust remover too, like CLR, but active ingredient is hydrofluoric acid. That hf acid is one mean momma of an acid, great for rust removal. Don't leave it around toddlers, you drink it you die, for sure, no cure. It's happened before.

Spill some on your black shirt and you have a white polka dot.

But in the right hands, it can whiten your tub fantastic-like. And even though it's illegal (I'm told) to buy hf acid without some special transport license, Whink was grandfathered, maybe cuz it's a weak dilution.

I don't know what ya got in that tub. You might want to try using "Bar Keepers Friend". It's pretty darn good on porcelain, not a miricle worker, but it's readily available at the supermarket. Comes in a little shaker can like the old green comet containers......'cept it's gold colored.
