Hey all -

As with all the other newbies around here, I am seeking the porfessional advice of everyone - I am planning to do the dry install of saltillo tile, sealing them first, but in reading this I am wondering if you seal the underside of the tile to keep from too much moisture absoption. I know you all do not recommend sealing the sides so the grout will adhear, but what about the bottom side?

Also, I am wanting the tile to have the darkest natural color possible, so what kind of sealer is recommened? Oil based?

Many thanks in advance for any help!

Haley

Hi Haley, Welcome! :)

Do not seal the underside of your tiles!

I would ask for samples of several sealers, and TEST them on your tile for desired results. You are correct that the solvent based sealer will probably bring out the richest color.
