previous owner laid brick floor throughout 'living' areas (including kitchen) and never sealed floor. I have dirty grout, places where vegetable oil spilled, etc.
Need suggestions on how to clean floors & grout, what color to 'stain' grout - something at least darker than the original light gray, and what to seal with.
After completing the above project, I plan to tile kitchen counters (still the original Formica butcher block!)
I am so glad to have found this forum. And yes, I plan to purchase John's book before starting on the counters.

Hi Barker, Welcome! :)
Please introduce yourself, and give us a first name. We won't bite. :D
Have you done a search yet? :shades:
Can you post a picture?
First you'll need to clean the floor with a high alkaline cleaner (such as Stone Tech's KlenzAll). You need to let the product dwell (without drying), agitate with stiff brush, remove residuals with wet vac, rinse, remove with wet vac.
Some professional restoration/cleaning companies have "clean & capture equipment", that facilitates this procedure.
You can change the grout lines to any color you choose, but with brick it's easier said that done, because of the rough texture.
There are several options for sealer, depending what you want for the finished look. Please give us more details.
Last, but not least, TEST a small area first to check for desired results.

Hi Carolyn :)
Thanks for sharing!
Nothing paarticular, just something showing a possible problematic area of concern, or something to help depict colors and the actual material that was used.
