slate tiles retorer

recently moved into house that has black slates tiles up walls and floor of bathroom there seems to be like soap scum can't get they white scummy look off was told to put baby oil on it but this only masks it for a while have cleaned with all kinds .clr, citrus cleaners you name it it think ive tried it was suggested i use one go to fix it this isnt working either can anyone help these poor tiles

Can you share a first name with us? :shades:

It's very possible that the white you see, could be a coating that has moisture behind it (or breaking down). Or, as you say, has a buildup of soap scum.

Can you take a single edge razor blade, hold at a low angle, and try to scrape off some of the mysterious coating? Have you tried a stone specific high alkaline cleaner or coating stripper?

Please post a picture if possible.
