Lately when I click on Google from my favorites I get Illegal Op etc.. shut it down and then try again no problem. I had deleted the link from my favorites when it first started and the added it back in, still a problem. Any ideas?

You're not the only one- this is being discussed on a computer help board (http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/comphelp/msg0518031028749.html?10) at GardenWeb, too. Strange.

Google is the best in my opinion but I was teethed on AOL and use it to fall back on. The only problem with AOL is they are always trying to sell me something, one damned pop-up after another everywhere I try to go, they won't leave me alone. Then when you try to close it out it takes for ever to get rid of all their windows. For days after I've been to AOL my damned email box fills up with trash.

AOL is a PITA!!!

How about Dogpile (http://www.dogpile.com/index.gsp)? And while you're at it, how 'bout changing your browser to refuse pop-ups? :D

I quit trying to change my browser to do anything. Every time I've opened that door I have screwed up something. I have no idea where to find all that stuff.

Last winter when I lost my color delineation and a bunch of other stuff I also lost my ability to double click my name and password into those little boxes.......so I type it in there every damned time I go anywhere.

Not only that, since then I've had to create a "new user" cause my own personal (original) location is so screwed up and I don't know where to go to fix it.

So screw it. Now I'll just be happy with calling myself "buddyboy".

Common denominator seems to be IE.

Try it with another browser. http://www.opera.com

OK, so now I know where to go to download it, and I know where to go to pay for some version of it.

What I don't know is: What is it?

What happens to my IE if I download OPERA?

What will it do for me?

Pay? You don't need no stinkin' credit card to get Opera...

Opera is a browser- it's what stores your cache of visited pages, cookies, images, bookmarks, etc. Download the free version to see if you like it. Keep your IE on the 'puter for a security net, even though it sounds like there's a bunch of holes in that net already.

I still have IE- there are some sites that really only like IE, like some of Jacob's nickelodeon, Little Golden Books, etc- very flash heavy stuff Opera doesn't run well. Day-to-day surfing- I like Opera. It's a small download (well, for a browser) and it erases cleanly if you change your mind.

With Opera, you can customize everything or nothing. Look through the computer training- JC and I discussed Opera and what we like about it in a few different threads. The few things I would change on Opera right away after downloading:

Enable mouse gestures. Very cool!
Set Opera to identify as MSIE.
Disable popups. (Note- there are sites that actually use these for good, and not evil. It's easy to change back and forth.)

When you bring up Opera for the first time, click F12 and it brings up "Quick preferences". That will let you change the the browser to show as MSIE, and disable popups. The mouse gesture enabling is under File > preferences > accesibility > enable mouse gestures. This lets you use the mouse for backward and forward with just a quick right-left click.

There's a quick way to import your bookmarks, too, but I can't remember right now. Must go get more coffee....:D

Yea but you can have 20 browsers if you feel like it....they are just programs after all.

Nothing to lose and it won't throw any garbage into your PC and it unistalls cleanly.

You can switch back and forth with no problems.

I have IE,Mozilla,Cameleon,Netscape, and Opera..having this many is kinda nessesary to see how my web pages will look with each one to the viewer...like Cami said I mostly use Opera but occasionally I will find a site that has fancy crap on it and will use Netscape or IE to view that site if nessesary.

My wife uses Netscape so it works out really nice as she does not cluster my Opera up with her bookmarks and settings and junk.

Cami, I use IE. How do you set it to refuse popups? You're torturing me with visions of a glorious "popup free" future!

First....you download and intall Opera. :D
Then set your preferences to "refuse popups". Nothing to it, gentlemen! ;) ;) ;)

Voila- no more annoying popups for the spycam...or hot Asian women just waiting for your call.

Seriously, I don't think IE has this feature.
