Don't ask me what happened. Don't know. Last time we lost all the handles was a long time ago, and I manually went through and typed them all in again. For lack of a better plan, I'm going to do that this time, except we now have about ten times as many members as we used to have.

Can you bear with me until the weekend? :)

And if on Monday you see that your handle has not been restored or that I've screwed it up, will you please email me? You can use the board mail or you can email me direct: john@johnbridge.com

[Patti, Some of those handles are pretty complex. You're gonna hafta help me, please? Pretty please?]

What say folks, shall we go along?

First I want to see what Patti has to say!

Been down this path before. You know........?

I have to admit that seeing John as "junior member" is kinda funny...

Wonder what a senior member would look like.

Bud Cline

I'm just going to have to ask for a raise, this whole thing is humiliating, "Junior" indeed.

Hey Patti...got a minute?

Hell Bud, John can't get money out of Patti, how are we supposed to?

John Bridge
05-09-2002, 06:12 PM
I think now you're getting the idea. I actually SEE very little money around here. I sign invoices for significant amounts, but that's the end of it. :D

Oh, I do have one Master Card that travels around in my wallet. The cap on it is about $1200. Before I use it I have to call Patti to make sure my intended expenditure won't drive me over the top. :D

You might have noticed that I've been working on the handles. I've been through the entire membership list once (744 members as of an hour ago). I know I have missed some people, and I have also probably screwed up some handles. Please don't be bashful about straightening me out. Let me know here or email me.

:D Enough to make you a little more grudging with the nicknames, eh? :D

John Bridge
05-11-2002, 04:57 PM
Yeah. :D

There's got to be a way to just go into a backup dump and restore all that without disrupting what's going on currently, but I sure don't know how. Hope I didn't hang a really offending title on anyone.

Well, at first I thought it was just me gettin' busted back down for shenanigans and hi-jinks, but (whew!) nope....

I thought I was busted for my comments about putting John's book on the shelf next to MB's.

Uh, Sharon vanished about the same time as the handles. Did she take them?

flatfloor
05-28-2002, 09:21 PM
Trying to figure that out now.

John Bridge

Sharon's vanishing is no mystery. I'm guilty.

The handles are another matter. Just don't know what's going on. People are pushing me toward installing the latest version of the software that runs these boards. I've resisted because I like the look and feel of this version, but maybe it's time. Gotta get ahold of Dave B. and see what he says. In the meantime, everybody will be the same, but I'll try to change it to something better than "junior member."

John Bridge
05-29-2002, 04:51 PM
I'm not having a lot of luck changing "junior member." But hey, it's really not so bad, is it? :D

flatfloor

I love being called junior. :D

Oh great!!!

We're all great people!

Now how do you feel being placed within the genome as me, Jim?

Art?

Bud?

Yeah, and even you, John?

Well, I'll tell you what I think, I think YOU oughta, well, no, I guess you've been a pretty good sport all in all. I vote we keep him around.

Any other yah's?

I'll gladly take Great Person over what I was called today. An irate patient blasted me with a string of awe-inspiring obscenities. Combinations I'd never heard or imagined. With her cognitive deficits I was impressed that she could put the sentence together as well as she did.

God, nursing is rewarding.

Dianne,

Just take it in stride and recall that there are "model patients." I happen to be one of them. I haven't been in the hospital much, but if you ever encounter me, you'll just love the way I act. I'm not demanding at all, except when "the Duke" is on TV. I'll kill the $#%&*^% in the other bed if he tries changing the channel. :)

In general, I find men to be better patients (less difficult, less demanding, more appreciative, more apt to listen to advice given) than women. Over 80% of my census is comprised of women.

Of course, there are exceptions to every rule. And when we get a bad male patient, odds are he is VERY bad.

I hope you're not old enough or sick enough to be one of my patients. . .yet.

Dianne,

I'm on the young side of 61, which puts me in the bottom half of members on this forum. Or so I've been told. ;)

My average patient age is 86, you've got a long way to go before I'm taking your temperature.

Great cartoon, Cami, I've seen it acted out in person a few times.

Dianne,

You are an angel. You've just given me another 25 years of blissful existence. :)

Everybody Else, :D

I'm still having problems with DSL that have not been resolved. My download speeds are back in one of those ages preceding the dinosaurs. :)

Upload and download speeds are a big part of updating this site, of course. I don't think I'm going to be able to tackle the handles this weekend. Any suggestions for a temporary communal handle that might be more appropriate than "Great Person"?

It'll be another week unless a miracle happens, and Ma Bell is not noted for working miracles. ;)

"Grout Groupies"

How about "---". No one can complain. (yeah, right...:D )

John Bridge

Uh, any other suggestions?

;)

Cami A
06-01-2002, 05:47 PM
Well, you could use Scooter's personal request....it would make "Great Person" sound good. :D

Seriously- leaving it blank wouldn't be so bad...Everyone that wants to can change their sig- those seem to stay in place.

How about:

Illustrious Supporter of non-leaky showers, mold killer, defender of the downtrodden, denizen of the deep, guardian of the relics of St. Brendan.

I could have gone on but it might have been too long.

:D

Er, uh, Jim. You've once again reaffirmed the great intuition I displayed when I dubbed Cami the forum "hostess."

And Jim, Change brands. Get something a little less potent. I always recommend Miller's Highlife (even though it's just been bought up by a South African company). :D

DSL has been repaired. Turned out to be a crimped wire in the terminal to the house. Phone company problem, but of course, they didn't want to admit it and couln't locate it. I found it myself. We are now cruising at about 700 kbps.

I have updated most of the handles, but I missed a bunch. Please don't be bashful in calling it to my attention.

Cami A
06-02-2002, 04:44 PM
700 kbsp...sigh...someday, modern technology will come to the hinterlands...

So what happened to "MUDMEISTER"?

John Bridge
06-02-2002, 05:29 PM
I got tired of it. Besides, I did away with it the other time some dummy screwed up the handles. It's been gone for a month or so. ;)

Always reminded me of a cheap beer. my favorite cheap beer - Ol Sweatband. :)

WOW, I worked really hard coming up with that one!

John Bridge
06-03-2002, 11:43 AM
I know you did, Bud, and I appreciate it. Maybe we'll reinstate it sometime. Gonna be tough, though, especially since Jim just called me and old sweatband. ;)

flatfloor
06-03-2002, 02:58 PM
I did not call YOU an ol sweatband, although.......:)
