Accidently dropped by a few days ago--and decided to drop in. What a strange group-I think I'll fit right in! I've been around a little, worked a little, played a little, wrote a little, and read a little. I've already learned a little too! Have an intense interest in things that are hard or soft, wet or dry, large or small, or right or wrong. I have an intense dislike for those who say "it can't be done."

"Build it and they will come."

Welcome, to test your fit here's your first assignment.

Tell everyone what a "Hobbit" is.

Ever go to the Hobbit Hole in Kansas Cuty?

Thanks for the welcome! Well, let's see--a hobbit-Hmm. Originally created by Tolkien (me thinks), a hobbit would be a character of relatively small stature with a tendency to build and live underground and be a homebody--with some notable exceptions of course! (Bilbo, please forgive me for compartmentalizing you in such a way). Now which KC would that be--Kansas or Missouri? Actually, the answer would be the same--No. However, I have been both places, and most assuredly would have stopped if I had know it was there.

Bud:

While those who live in Kansas City, Missouri may not want to admit it, there really is a Kansas City, Kansas. When you cross the line you are still in Kansas City, but believe me, you're not in Missouri anymore! At least the people I talked to assured me that I really was in Kansas!:D

And really,Personal Hygiene?!. I practice it, but I don't teach it. Just because I believe everyone should be able to read and write a coherent sentence doesn't mean that I won't get my hands dirty.

Cami:

I work at the college level. I am the Evening Programs Coordinator at a Community College in North Carolina. I am also part of the adjunct faculty and instruct different courses when called upon. In my spare time (??) I remodel houses and help others do the same. I am currently working on a 4800 sq. ft. wood frame house that I recently purchased and a much smaller(1000 sq. ft.) house for a relative. Both require a lot of work. I really enjoyed the discourse on concrete countertops. I have often wondered about them and now am considering attempting them in my own house. Thanks!:)

Spare time? Better start saving up what little you have so you can keep up with the "terrible humor" here...

You will never convince me there is a Kansas City Kansas because there just isn't. If it wasn't for what Missouri has done with their fine Kansas City there wouldn't be any of that prime real estate that now exists nereby in Kansas.

Besides I'm from St. Louis and you just have to "show me".

The hygiene comment was due to the picture CAMI posted....take another look at that dudes......

well just take another look.

By the way...where the heck is Kansas Cuty?

Well, there were munchkins, too.

Hi Hobbit,

You are most welcome to this bastion of literacy. Glad you stopped by.

Guess One: English Lit

Guess Two: Drama

P.S. As an old Army man, I'm naturally curious as to which branch of the military you flew in.

And Bud, there is a Kansas City, Kansas. It's on the tollway from Wichita. ;)

Bud:

Missouri. I figured as much. Actually, I happen to agree with you. My father was from St. Louis, and a louder, more persevering advocate there never was.

Kansas Cuty is right next to Kansas City on your QWERTY keyboard.

Cami:

Couldn't help noticing your tagline about Michigan. I once worked part time for a U.S. Congressman from the Detroit area. I just drove him around while he was campaigning. He lost the election though---Hmm. Wonder what that means? I lived outside of Milford. A little town called White Lake.

You're right about the spare time thing. I work constantly just to keep the bills paid. Bud's right too--that guy really is filthy. Great movie. Great trilogy.

Hi John--

Thanks for the welcome. You will be happy to know that my military career was spent in the Army. I flew gunships mostly; Cobras (AH-1S FMC), and Apaches (AH-64). Also spent a little time flying the bus (UH-1H). Before that, I flew commercially for an operation in northern California doing fire recon over the timberlands for Southern Pacific.

Guess one is closest. Freelanced for a while--loved it--had to give it up--like to eat too. Still write some. Mostly technical stuff for the college although I sometimes write a guest column for a local newspaper.

Hobbit, as someone who now resides in the bustling metropolis of Mackinaw City (pop. 587), I stay away from Detroit whenever possible...

Heh, heh..another language geek...pity you don't teach history, though.

Bud, Bud, Bud...all right, I'll take the blame if you insist...I've had lots of practice...

Gun ships. Love it. When I first became aware of them, there were only Huey's. Saw a cobra sitting on the strip right before I returned to the land of round door nobs. :)

I am a writer also. Fortunately, I set ceramic tile as a sideline.

Go Army. Be all you can be. ;)

John

Yeah, The Huey gunships were the first wave of better things to come. Just ask the 11-Bulletstoppers.:D

BTW--Just finished perusing your site (completely I think). Quite an interesting mix of material. Will be doing quite a bit of tile work soon--quite a bit by my standards, that is.:) Will probably have a few questions when I hit the problem areas--I know enough to know that they're coming!

I love history too. I don't teach it, but I study it.

Those who don't learn from their mistakes are doomed to repeat them. My apologies to whomever if I butchered the quote.:)

Tacitus.

Actually, the reason I said "whomever" is because I have seen the quote in various guises ascribed to several people including George Santayana as well as Tacitus and "anonymous."

Oh well, I'm still

Well, we know for sure it couldn't have been anonymous. It had to be somebody with a name. ;)
