According to USG support line...they really dont support skim coating and painting durock...but...if you must skim with easy sand or durabond. Any real life experience with skimming and painting durock outside of shower enclosure?

Anybody ever try to paint over Redguarded durock?

Thanks again!

Nope, can't say that I have, sounds like bad planning, Redgard is not made to be a wear layer or for painting, must be covered with tile, if this area is outside the tub or shower area, I would remove it and install drywall, if painting or wallpapering that area.:)

I have tried and it DOES NOT work . The paint will not adhear to durock that has been membraned by the fabulous redgaurd. But I have skimmed and painted durock and then ended up putting a texture on the durrock walls.
