I'm packing up and moving again...but this time to an area north of Charlotte, North Carolina (Mooresville). Anybody here from NC know about the homes? The homes on realtor.com seem to have lots of living area and entryway wood floors - but what about the bathrooms and kitchens? Is tile not popular? What can I expect and what should I watch out for? Thanks guys!

Wow, what a question!! :)

I live about an hour from Mooresville (maybe a little more). You will find everything from tobacco barn shacks to multi-million dollar estates. Homes (and real estate) are not nearly as expensive here as some other places (like California) or as inexpensive as others. The area north of Charlotte is growing fast and in different directions. The Nascar track is there (Lowe's Motor Speedway) so the population and the economies vary widely week to week based on what's happening at the track. Also located close by is a large shopping complex that houses one of the largest indoor malls that I have ever seen (Concord Mills), which includes a huge Bass Pro Shops store but no major department stores...??? A little further east (of I-85) is most of the housing devised and placed for students of the University (UNC-Charlotte), a major engineering school. Yet all of this will probably not directly affect what you find in Mooresville......Just as Mooresville doesn't affect my little 35 acre farm to the north and east.

Sorry, not trying to be glib....but what exactly do you want to know?? Is tile prevalent in North Carolina? Of course..but not in cheap tract homes, apartments, or university housing. Are there major tile distributors way down here in the south?? Well shucks boy, we got tile---and real tile stores too. Also got plenty big boxes, Blue and Orange. Is wood (or wood laminate) a popular flooring choice?? Well, yes. Isn't it everywhere?

Maybe I don't understand what it is you're asking??? :confused:

we moved out of south charlotte last nov. to be closer to family.you will find plenty of work there charllotte is growing very fast- lake norman has alot of nice neighborhoods and the golf courses all have alot of nice homes. hooer if you have any more questions.justin

I live just outside of Winston-Salem, and I can tell you that NC is a great place to live. Home prices are way below the nationall average and the quality of life here is great. My tile setting business has been doing well. There is ample work for quality contractors. God luck!

Thersa, I wish you'd stay put. I suppose when you get there you're going to buy another condo with a leaky shower. ;)

I've been searching through realtor.com for a house or townhouse under 150k. I've seen lots and lots and lots of wood floors, even in kitchens. I was beginning to wonder if tile was extremely expensive, unpopular, or if 150k is tract housing territory.

A Bass Pro Shop in a mall? I might be in for some culture shock. I'm used to Ann Taylor and Barnes and Noble. :)

John - Sorry to be leaving but I got a job offer I couldn't refuse. And my shower only leaks if I leave the door open. :laugh2:

I'm not too familiar with Mooresville (other than that Lowe's Corp. is located there) but I would venture to say the 'Tract' theory was the closest:)

The big realtor in the area seems to be Allen Tate - you may want to raise your range a bit (come on, you can afford it - the prices in Portland have been skyrocketing!) and look on allentate.com.
