If you live near a Lowe's Home Improvement store and are ever tempted to order any of their honed and polished or tumbled travertine products (obtained from a quarry in Mexico), don't do it.
My first order last summer of 400, prepaid sq. ft. required 4 weeks delivery time, with an initial promise of 5 working days. Something about a death in the quarry owners' immediate family.
My second and last order, prepaid for $2300 (and last purchase ever of anything from Lowe's) required 7 weeks delivery time, with an initial promise of 5 working days delivery time. Something about offloading every pallet and every box of tiles from of their 4-18 wheeler trucks at customs. (The HO's kitchen counters, backsplashes and living room floor were demolished and/or removed within the first 4 days after I placed the order. Dear lord, another story.) I had the granite counter tile delivered and on hand 24 hours after my order from a local, reputable stone distributor.
The stone is a good quality product for the price that can be negotiated, but nothing else is. Lowe's is a big corporation with big purchasing leverage and lots of employees who couldn't care less.
