If you live near a Lowe's Home Improvement store and are ever tempted to order any of their honed and polished or tumbled travertine products (obtained from a quarry in Mexico), don't do it.

My first order last summer of 400, prepaid sq. ft. required 4 weeks delivery time, with an initial promise of 5 working days. Something about a death in the quarry owners' immediate family.

My second and last order, prepaid for $2300 (and last purchase ever of anything from Lowe's) required 7 weeks delivery time, with an initial promise of 5 working days delivery time. Something about offloading every pallet and every box of tiles from of their 4-18 wheeler trucks at customs. (The HO's kitchen counters, backsplashes and living room floor were demolished and/or removed within the first 4 days after I placed the order. Dear lord, another story.) I had the granite counter tile delivered and on hand 24 hours after my order from a local, reputable stone distributor.

The stone is a good quality product for the price that can be negotiated, but nothing else is. Lowe's is a big corporation with big purchasing leverage and lots of employees who couldn't care less.

Why would you do this on the promise of a Big Box store???
Bet you never do that again ;)

I dont Demo anything ever until the order is recieved, checked and delivered.
Its a good policy and one that will save you a major headache one day(like reinstalling everything you tore out back to the original because they cant find anything else they like. They end up with all brand new and you get the shaft!!!)

Todd,
I suspect the reason(s)I took the word of a big box store and performed demo based on their representation owes to a number of factors, including but not limited to: stupidity, wishful thinking, lack of patience, probably a previously undiscovered, sub-conscious, masochistic streak, and a host of other unflattering and irrational self-descriptions. Speaking of headaches Todd. i put a small 110 sq footer in yesterday on a 45. And have 700 feet of a 18x18 in the kitchen and common areas to do. the wharehouse calls the homeowner today and says its the wrong color in the bathroom. Why didnt they call me and not the HO. Then the 700 feet is lost on a semi driving around the world and guess what i tore out the vinyl and moved eveything it was supposed to be here today gee its still not there.
