We have a customer who had paste wax applied to their Saltillo (Saltillo Tile made in Saltillo Mexico) tile floor. The floor is also heated. They then put down a rubber net anti slip padding and an area rug on top. Within 24 hours the net matting stuck to the floor. When you lift the matting up it leaves parts uf the matting stuck to the floor. Scrape away the rubber matting that stuck and what is left is lots of little oil "looking" marks where the rubber stuck.

Any suggestions?

When we work on wood floors that have paste wax on them we remove it with an alchol base cleaner.

I am thinking using the same cleaner to remove the past wax. This should hopefully get most of it but I am sure not all. Then we are left to deal with the spots.

Other notes. I looked at a couple of tiles they had left over. They told me that there was some type of sealer/impregnator put on them in Mexico. Some tiles look as if what ever was applied soaked into the tiles and other tiles look like it has a glaze on them.

Any help woud be great.

I am also thinking maybe a poltice may work. If so what should the ingredients be?

Hi Jim :)

Have you tried any TESTs yet?

Since I can't see the tiles, and know what they are sealed with, I'd be just guessing also. Maybe the tiles were sealed with linseed oil and paint thinner. On the denser tiles this would tend to leave the material on the surface (and shiney), while the porous tiles would absorb the chemical and remain flat.

What type of radiant heat is under the tile, and what temp were they heated that caused the backing to melt?

I use poutices by Prosoco. Which one is determined by the stain I'm trying to remove. Stone Tech's poutice is supposed to be pretty good (as expressed by people that have used it).

Before a poultice is used in this application, are you sure the discoloration isn't just a reaction with the matting and the sealer and wax. Have you tried a stone specific high alkaline cleaner yet?
