We have travertine installed at our new home (where we do not live yet). Even after cleaning it has a dirty film, with partial foot prints, and "wipe Marks" on it.

The tile sat outside in cases under a carport style area for approximately 1-2 weeks before it was delivered to our home. During this time, it rained.

The tile was installed when there was no heat in the house and the temperature never got above 45 degrees outside.

It was sealed with Aqua Mix Enrich 'n Seal and approximately 24 hours after this was applied contractors were coming in with wet/damp feet and using the room for storage of marble, shelving, wood ect.

All that being said, the floors look horrible and cleaning them does not seem to help. Please point us in the right direction. Do we need to strip the floors and start over or what? Thanks.

Hi DixieLee, Welcome! :)

It's possible that the travertine wasn't properly cleaned before the sealer was applied. It's also possible that the sealer wasn't completely dry before it was walked on. It sounds like the wipe marks were due to improper application of the sealer.

It sounds like you may need a restoration expert to address this floor.

If you want to tackle it, it will be a trial and error proposition. :bang:

Can you post a picture?

John is right on the money. The Enrich and Seal was not properly applied and the film is porbably from that mixed with the traffic it saw too early. If I had a nickle for every...wait a minute, I get more than a nickle to fix it. :) It is not easy to fix. Definately not a DIY project unless you like harsh chemicals and seeing funny colors.
