I need help with a curved transition strip from my tile to laminate flooring. I have looked into custom strips ($500+) and just read about rubber transition strips (which I'm sketchy about). Looking for alternative solutions or past experiences with either strip. Any help or advise would be GREATLY appriciated. Brad

How long is the strip? I make all of my wood transition strips. $500 sounds outrageous.

Welcome aboard Brad. :)

I agree with Jason, $500+ sounds high. How tight a radius is this and what is the height differential? (Along with the length that Jason axed).

Welcome, Brad. :)

Big radiused wood transitions would be spendy, but $500 sounds a bit high. Unless it's a really, really big strip, eh? But if you're buying it from the laminate floor people, it wouldn't surprise me much, considering they charge $40 or $50 bucks for an inch and a quarter wide, pre-finished trim strip eight feet long. A fella could make hisownself a lot of radiused reducer for $500 bucks, though.

While I'm a big fan of wood for transitions/reducers/thresholds, there are other options. This a wood laminate floor, or some other style? Schluter makes a lot of metal and plastic edgings for tile, and I think some of them are bendable. Might look into that.

My opinion; worth price charged.

THere is the picture of the curved transition strip needed between the tile and the hardwood. The length is about 14 ft long.

I think a fairly small strip would bend around that radius. The smaller the better as far as bending goes. What size do you need? Maybe 3/8 to nothing within about 1 inch? I would think a local trim carpenter could make one on a table saw. Someone else might have a better idear. :)

Well Davy the problem he has is its laminate floorings. And if you get laminate wet and try to mold it it breaks. What a track and cap system in a matching color??? Just a thought. I have done some radius floors with Lam and yes it sucks when it comes to the transtions and things. What brand of floor is it and what color????? I know when i do quarter round around curves I make a template on playwood and use nails then slowly insert the round and keep it wet for a few days then dry it off with a heat gun. Works for me with round. But Lam just sucks when it comes to custom molding they dont flex they snap in two.

I would use hardwood - not laminate for the bend. Use small strips to for the bend and then glue it up in that position. Then do the edging on a router table

I had hardwood on my mind too ,not laminate. :)

Up to 1" wide ash or oak could take that radius bend with no prob. - no heat or steam required. $25 in materials would be my guess. :)

Thanks for all your responses, very helpful. I have tried to call around to numerous flooring stores and NOBODY will help me with my problem. Any suggestions on who I should call or even what type of company to be calling. I am desperate and willing to pay just about anything. If anybody can help me I don't mind throwing around some money. PLEASE HELP -B-
