We are in the process of searching for the appliances we will be furnishing for our new home. We will be needing Washer and Dryer (looking at front loading). Dish washer. Gas range and Refrigerator (Freezer on the bottom)
We are looking for opinions on what people have and what they like/dislike. I know I could go to Consumer Reports but I prefer actual use opinions.
The Washer/Dryes we are looking at are Whirlpool/Bosch/Maytag
Dish Washer is Bosch
Fridge Whirlpool/Amana
Range ????
Thanks

Hi Pete,
We are very happy with our frontload washing machine - Kenmore Elite. It's about two years old now. Works great, better for the clothes than the top load washers.
We have a Bosch dishwasher. I wanted something very quiet and the Bosch is it!
Refrigerator is an Amana side by side. Ice(crushed and cubed) and water through the door. We've had this one for 4 years or so. Never a problem with it.
If you want particular model numbers I'd be happy to oblige, although I'm certain newer models are sporting new model numbers.
We are in the same process of appliance shopping. The washer/dryer will be Frigidaire with a front load washer. Plain basic model with simple controls. I don't want super computerized functions- too complicated and more costly when it comes to repairs. I am buying a Premier gas range, stainless, pro-series. It had a semi-professional look, is built to last, has heavy duty cast iron continuous top grates, and is non-computerized. Has electric ignition but can be lit with a match in power failures. No dishwasher- I AM the dishwasher, lol. Fridge- my current one is a Maytag side by side. Never again will I buy a side by side. The brand is fine. Haven't had any problems with it so far. The new one will have a freezer on the bottom. There's a fridge called Equator Conserve that has a bottom freezer that I am seriously considering, but it has less capacity than I really like. It's tall and slim making it fit well in a small kitchen and is super energy efficient. If I decide against that one, I'll probably buy either a Maytag, possibly Kenmore, or a Fisher-Paykel. I want a medium size with 14-16 cu ft, and it seems that they are difficult to find with a bottom freezer. I live by the premise that the less computerized crap I have, the less can go wrong :)
Here is a link to a website/Forum that seems to have tons of information about washer/dryers. There seem to be a large number of folks there that like the LG best.

I'm an IT guy now but years ago I sold electronics and appliances to support my college habit... :)
About ten years ago, you couldn't have given me a Frigidaire appliance. They were so bad that they just fell apart on our showroom floor where the toughest thing they had to endure was looking pretty. Ten years ago the failure rate was very high for Frigidaire but they look better now (especially the W/D) although still not as good across the line as some others.
My first choice for the best all-around appliance maker is Whirlpool. However, I just recently purchased an all Kenmore kitchen, which mostly is made by Whirlpool but cost me less for similar features. My second choice would have been the GE Profile line and we came very close to going that way. Again, cost steered us away as we were buying everything new and were already in for $6K with Kenmore. Any more money then that and were going to need a second mortgage!
Looking through consumer reports (the online version is pretty cheap so might be worth it before spending big bucks on the appliances), you can do a little better here and there by mixing and matching manufacturers but we wanted to stay consistent with everything. We also bought a Kenmore Elite W/D (top loader washer) and have been very pleased so far with them. We wanted front loaders but again didn't want to sink the money into them. Now my wife says she wishes we had but still likes the units we purchased.
