I have just installed a marble bathroom. However, just before grouting i accidentally scratched the surface of a tile in a conspicous spot...
Can anyone help me with advice of how to repair this scratch without having to replace or repolish the whole section?

Thank you in advance.

What type of marble?
How deep is the scratch - very, just a little, surface only, etc...
What caused the scratch?

Hi Ken, Welcome! :)

All the questions Brian asked.

Depending on the depth of the scratch, you may not be able to repair it (without making it worse). A restoration pro may be needed, unless you're up to replacing the tile.

Ken,

If it is that bad and you are an installer, you would be far better off popping it out and putting in a new one. Us restoration guys are not cheap and neither are the diamond pads to fix it. You could probably handle it in 10 mins.

Thank you all for the attention to my problem and your prompt replies.

I didn't want to mention it before, because it seems so stupid, but what really caused the scratch is the fact that i was clearing debris from a groutline and the only tool handy at the moment was a ... screwdriver! (go ahead laugh your heads out :)

The scratch is not very deep though, probably not even 1/64 in depth, but it sticks out like a sore thumb right next to the mirror.

In any case, I would like to know more about polishing stone.
Where can I take a look at one of those diamond pads and how much could the basic supplies kit cost if I would like to keep it in my toolbox? (If not for anything else, then for the stupid moments like my story above)

Thanks again for all your help.

I don't know where you are located, but if you are in the US of A, you can buy a whole kit from Maurizio at mbstone.com. He will set you up with machine and diamond pads. You can also call Eric at GranQuartz in Atlanta. He sells that stuff too.

If the scratch is not very big, try painting it with a clear fingernail polish. Doing this will at the least bring the color back.

Good luck,

you could probably use the foam back diamond hand pads for this job (in marble). Lots of sources avaliable, and not near as expencive as a variable speed polisher and a set of pads.
