looking at most of the profiles, there seems to be a large majority of fly-fishermen out there....How many?
I personally love to fly fish and consider myself a purist in terms of method. How about you?
count me in..Was just reading the latest Steelhead info on the river I fish..www.fishbaldwin.com A while back in the MUD BOX we had a fly fishing thread going. There are a few of us..I just picked up a nice 9'6" 4 piece 8wt. ST.CROIX. Ultra Legend .I love browns on dry's,with a nice smoke.

My wife and I love to fly-fish, but I'm quite certain that what we call fly-fishing is vastly different than what ya'll are used to. Ain't no wading around in no sissy crystal clear streams. Wade around in this coffee-looking water and you sink to your knees, and then you can't run from the alligators. :)

Michael...
Welcome to the clan here at JB's place. There are quite a few of us here who prefer the challenge of fishing (not just catching).
:) :)

I'm fortunate where I live...within an hour drive in most directions I can get into steelhead, brookies, browns, 'bows, and everything else that bites an insect or small minnow. My personal favorite has to be native brookies, and we sometimes get "coaster brookies" that migrate from Lake Michigan and Lake Superior into smaller tributaries. BIG BROOKIES...at least the Coasters.
Tried my hand at Northern Pike fishing with a fly....Now that's fun! I used my 8 weight set-up and the flies are actually similar to your salt water flies like Lefty's Deceiver. Strip like hell and pause. It's a blast to see that mouth open up to eat the fly.

does that work the same way with the Zebra mussels??? You can have 'em. I remember when we didn't have any, and now they've invaded Green Bay. You can't even walk on the shore barefoot anymore. They slice your feet like your skin is made of wet paper.
If you want to claim the Lake, you gotta take back your Zebra mussels....fair trade???? :yipee:

Yes, it's all coming back to me now. zebra muscles came in on a freighter headed for Illinois. I'll tell you how to get rid of them. Follow this procedure.
1. shovel into back of pick-up truck
2. drive to Illinois
3. unload muscles
4. drive back to Wisconsin
5. repeat
Hey, I'm pulling big clusters of them out of the rivers while fishin'. It's disgusting. They're in some of the inland lakes now too. AAAARRRRGGGGHH!!!!

The water clarity has improved in Green Bay because of the mussels, but there is some concern for the inland lakes that are near the vicinity of Green Bay. All it takes is someone not emptying their livewell, or taking in some water from ballasts. It just SUCKS if you live near the shore....makes it hard to take those nude strolls down the beach. Who wants to stroll nude if you gotta wear SANDALS!

Hey, I was over at Ludington the other day looking your way across the lake. I saw a great flash of light. Was that your nude bottom reflecting off the water clear over here? Now that's just invading our space!

It was 26 degrees yesterday...and cloudy. I usually wait until the thermo hits 75 before participating in anything on those lines. Not a polar bear, but maybe that's what you saw. It's feasible...I come from the school of "If you can think it, it can perfectly well happen".
