View Full Version : Q
Is there anything that will take soap film off granite kitchen counters. I don't wash the counters with soap but am assuming that some builds up on the counter when people wipe it down with a kitchen dishcloth that has some soap residue in it. Our counters don't shine like when new. Maybe that is just the nature of the beast?
Thanks

Ummmm...no, it should not have a 'soap film' that builds up over time. A bathroom shower, maybe. But not a kitchen counter top in a home.
Possibilities: a type of cleaning agent other than hand soap that does leave film, like sudsy type detergents. If you could not clean a mirror with it because it leaves streaky marks, then the same logic applies to shiny granite. Don't clean it with anything that leaves a film.
I know those last two paragraphs sound contradictory, but I meant it. A shower does have tons of soap contact, and it does build up. But unless you shower on top of your countertops, you would not use that much soap that it could 'build up'.
But even a tiny film of 'Fantastic', 'Formula 409' or similar product will leave a smeary dull film on a mirror or a countertop. But over time, it does not 'build up'. It just always looks ugly.
Try cleaning it with just plain water, rinsing it. Then dry buff with soft towel. If that works, it's a cheap answer.
If not, other possibilities include a sealer applied to the countertop that is degrading or reacting to the cleaning agents you are using.

Hi LB :)
We highly recommend you clean your granite countertops with a stone specific nuetral pH cleaner - such as Stone Tech's All Purpose Tile & Stone Cleaner. When mixed properly, does not leave a film. Will also help remove any "soapy" buildup that may exist. A stronger initial solution may be required, followed by a rinse.
Hey thanks. I have used that before, on some other tile I have in the house. I'll just have to remember where I bought it!

Hi LB, you can buy it at our store: (tywstore) :)
One final question. Is it ok to use this cleaner if my counters have been sealed with SCI's Spraynseal and also may have some SCI Countertop polish on them?

Hi LB :)
That's just what this product is designed for. Of course, SCI, has there own rendition.
Only one part of the formula is missing. What is your first name? :shades:
Cool. I'll get this then and give it a shot! I'll get the 24 ounce diluted spray and then I'll get a bigger bottle so I can mix some more. What dilution ratio do you mix it for general cleaning or does it say on bottle?
My name is Laura. Hey, thanks for all the great advice on this forum.
Have a good night!

Hi Laura :)
Thanks for sharing your name with us.
The instructions are on the label. Basically the concentrated product should be diluted at a rate of 2 oz. per gallon for maintenance cleaning.
Back atcha! (Good Night :) )
