My Granite got installed yesterday and I didn't know they were going to seal it. I was going to seal it myself and I bought Stonetech's Impregnator Pro sealer. Will I be able to use this over the sealer they just used? They did one coat.

Thanks for the help

Hi Rich,

Yes, you can re-seal your granite over the sealer that your installer used. You need to clean the countertop first with a ph neutral cleaner. Wait about 12 hours so that the countertop is completely dry and then you may use the sealer you purchased. Although I do advise that it may not go anywhere. If the top has already been sealed there is no where for the sealer to go and it won't really go into the pores of the stone since it was already sealed. You can try it though if you want to be extra cautious. I recommend using Stone Care International's products as they have a great line of cleaners, sealers, disinfectants and stain removers. Their website is www.stonecare.com

Hope that helps!

Do a test first, If the stone has been treated with an impregnator it should be good to go. Splash some water on your tops, if the water beads up your good, If not, you will want to protect your tops using an impregnator.

also get in touch with the fabricator find out what type of imprenator they used water or solvent based and you have to re-treat your tops try to stick with the same type.

Good luck

Try the water test but allow the water plenty of time to stand on the surface prior to your evaluation. The impregnator Pro will be compatible with any other sealer, water or solvent based, this doesn't really matter.
