It's definitely spring. It's started. AAAaagh.
The only road I can use to get anywhere is undergoing a major renovation, I cannot leave my house without getting on this road. Then when I get to the primary road (Long Island Expressway or the big LIE) it's shut down in two lanes off and on for the rest of the summer. Pray for me.

That sucks. Kinda the same thing going on here, but at least I can work around it.
Bud would have an idea how big a mess this one is...they're completely rebuilding the 635/central expressway interchange. It's about the busiest intersection in the city and it's costing some kazillion dollars (largest highway improvement contract in the state's history). It's gonna bottleneck traffic all the way downtown, NE and NW. Damned thing will probably be 18 stories high and 5 miles across!
Office space has gotten really cheap out there. Be a good time to lock it in for sub-lease when the dust settles.

Sonny,
Is central US75 or I-35? I need to go up to Sherman here pretty quick and don't want to get bushwacked on that mess. It's too far to ride my bike, too...

Paul,
Central is 75, the deadhead to Sherman. Do it in the dead of night or between rush hours (which are 7:30-10:30am 10:45 til 3pm, and 3:15 til 9 pm). Otherwise just be patient, tune in AM radio 1080, they give pretty good traffic reports every ten minutes. Hey, if it's too bad when you arrive, I'm a half block off central, call me and we'll just sit it out, OK?

We can do it! I can tell you what the traffic is like in Houston without leaving the house. If you're heading into town, you're in trouble. If you're heading out of town, you're in trouble.
Funny thing recently happened around here. They lowered the speed limit to 55 to cut down on emissions. Now we can only do about 30 on the way in. We used to hit about 35 or 40. On weekends we still sail along at 75. ;)

Ever get put on hold while calling long distance? The local radio station comes on with the traffic report. No matter what city they sound the same, overturned elephant on I-95 approaching the George Washington Bridge which is causing the traffic on NJ Rte 80 westbound to back up into Omaha, expect delays from Omaha into downtown Houston. You can avoid this by taking the alternate route through Atlanta, although there seems to be trouble developing in Atlanta, a traffic helicopter has run out of gas on the interstate. :D
