I'm trying this again as I did not realize at first that I had to be registered.

I'm wondering if there is anything I can do to make my 60 year old bathroom tile look better.

The tile is just the regular old bathroom tile -- nothing special. There are four 1.5 inch rectangles in yellow, surrounding a quarter inch black square. The tile is pretty dull, the grout seems ok, so I'm hoping there's some miracle cleaner product around that can give this tile a little life.

Thanks so much for any help or advice you can offer.

Hi Peggy, Welcome! :)

Sorry, there are no miracle products. :(

Do you know if these tiles are unglazed?

Is there just a layer of soap scum or soil that needs to be removed?

If I remember, you don't have a digital camera, because we sure could use a photo!

 Got any friends with a digital camera? :shades: ;)

Here's the picture -- the tile does not seem to be glazed as it is not glossy. And I do hope that the problem is years of soap scum. Anyhow, if this helps I'd certainly appreciate any advice. Friends told that Aquamix might be useful -- does that seem a reasonable place to start?

Thanks again for any advice.

Hi Peggy :)

Those appear to be porcelain tiles. They are naturally a flat/matte finish. A high alkaline cleaner will help disolve any soil. The only way to get them shiney is to coat them with wax (which I don't recommend).

Thanks you so much. I will give the cleaner a try this weekend.

I would also recommed that you use Stone Care International's Stone Quest and Ceramiclean. The stone quest is a more intensive cleaner that will clean up the grout quite a bit. The ceramiclean is used as an every day type of maintanence product for whenever you happen to be cleaning the bathroom. You dirute the ceramiclean 2 ounces per gallon with warm water so I would recommend using that to keep up with the maintanence of the tile. You can go to their website to check it out www.stonecare.com
