I just read in my new isue of JLC that Norm Abram has a stairway in his house that he needs to get started on...and he has been putting it off for 6 years.

My lack of progress around our new house (only one year here) is looking pretty good!

Rob,
Thats not bad.I've still putting the finishing touches on a house that we bought 12 yrs ago and I tell ya, it hasn't been easy.
But from the onset we refused to mortgage the thing and so far we've done ok in that department. We have taken a run down severly dated 40's house , approx.900 sqft' and now have a 3500sq.ft HOME. Every inch of our design.
We have lived through it, and I mean LIVED, we have never been slaves to the house.
Kathy and I have stayed social, we built a modest cottage
in this time and greatest of all we have three kids ,10,10 and 9. I coach kids ball, am a voting member of the PTA,
and public relations director of our local Community Policing. I guess all I'm saying is a house is just a house
but your home is much more than a building finished or not.

3500 square feet? A modest cottage? C'mon, Carl. Don't be so modest. :D

Our house is only 1500 square feet (that's after I added onto it). And it still ain't done! The "new addition" needs paint, and I've never painted the other part.

Of course, in order to paint, the drywall would have to be fixed, and then there's that crack that I think might be related to framing -- or subsidence. We do live in a swamp here. . . .

I am almost at the point (being the quintessential weekend warrior all my life) to hire someone to get this place back into shape!

This cenerio(or how ever that is spelled) is like the old saying about the mechanics car, the coblers shoes... etc.
And yes our cottage is modest, 20'X30' on piers , no interior finish, composting pooper, propane lights and frig,
and a bbq on the deck, just a roof over our heads but perfect for the few week-ends we get there.
But we do get there, and every year we seem to go more often. I am finally convincing myself that work is just work, it will still be there when I get back. It used to be just a hobby that pays, not anymore now it's just a means to an end.
In 13 yrs I'll be at the lake full time with a beer in one hand and a fishing pole in the other!

Well, I have grand plans for this place we are in now, but.... I know it will take me about 15 years to get it all done at my rate of progress.

Maybe I could host the John Bridge Services annual picnic here next year, and have enough trowels for everyone to pitch in?

uh, Rob, when IS the Annual Picnic? I mean, how long after the Spring Festival?

With some forethought we could run spring into annual into the fall festival. Maybe we could travel together around the country doing roofing, repaving driveways, fixing chimneys, siding and of course bathrooms and showers. Think we could slap a bathroom in, in less than 4 hours?

I know we won't look  towing a trailer with the top down, but Hey, I gotta show these guys how to do it right.

I know, I agree, they are going to say "Son, I been setting tile 42 years, and no dad gum salesman is going to come in here and tell me how to set tile" :D

Well I'll be down at 1st and regular street, I'll be a waitin.

Y'all sure it was Bob Barker. I'm thinking Art Linkletter.

Chippy,

Just point that convert toward New Mex. You'll find us. It's a small state, kinda like those northeastern ones. Just keep it on the interstate, pal. Pull a "U" if you start seeing Saguaro cacti. ;)

Rob, I just picked a pic from the Bonsal site at random. Kinda. Well, maybe I made sure there was some cork (that wecu stuff) in it. Chip does have a thing for cork, and these little details amuse me...
Honestly, I didn't even notice the m-m-m-m-m word in there! :D

I knew I should have just gone with my original choice for pictures, and not mentioned anything educational/vaguely tile-related.

Soooo....let me try again:

Now that I know everything about those smilies

In Cami's post with the Wecu attachment, there is a box with a little red x in it, next to her name. I click on it and nothing happens. what is that? Could it have something to do with the fact that she posted a picture from the http://www.?

By the way thanks for the accolades, and who said you can't teach a old dog new tricks? ;)

Chippy (HOOOWWWWLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!)

Here's another new trick, chip- when you see that little red box, try right-clicking on it and then click on "show image", or whatever your browser says that's close. Do these show up for you?
