Just what does Bunnies have to do with easter..and more importantly why do we have easter eggs...I mean bunnies don't lay eggs? This has got to be the most distorted holiday of all...If I am correct the date is wrong also.

Always bugged me.

Enjoy the holiday everyone.

Bunnies do to lay eggs.............er, don't they?

JC lighten up, is the date so important, really? It's what it represents. Many Christian HOLYdays are intermingled with many pagan holidays. The thinking at the time by the church was to assimilate people into Christianity. By incorporating the old holidays with the new the change was not so abrupt. Eggs are part of that process. I would go into more detail but I'm a little foggy about the eggs. Spring solstice, the earth renewed, Christ rises from the dead, eggs new life, see the thread?

Enjoy! :)

No not really...I am curious enough to research the pagen easter though and try to find a connection somewhere.

What about the bunnies? Is they any mention of bunnies in the bible? Do bunnies even live in the holyland?

Who decided to hard boil and paint the eggs?

There has got to be some interesting stuff behind this story..remember the Christmas thread awile back?

I'll see what I can find.

Heres some info..like you said..it does seem to simplistic to me though I am still searching.

Another slightly conflicting expalanation

http://www.holidays.net/easter/story.htm

and a similar story

http://www.pastrywiz.com/season/easter5.htm

and of course a completly differant explanation:

http://www.billpetro.com/HolidayHistory/hol/easter/easter.html

Interesting that Mardi Gras was a feast selebrated before lent so people could get there last good meal in. And "Carnival" means "no meat or to go without meat". If thats true.

about the eggs;

I am stating to think everyone is just guessing at this stuff.

Enjoy:)

Actually I think St Brendan the Boisterous started the hard boiled egg thing. While celebrating Easter Sunday in Montana he and his brethren were attacked by a marauding band of Fugawi Indians. Having run out of ammunition they were forced to hurl their lunch at the Fugawis. Lunch just happened to be hard boiled eggs. And that's how that tradition started. BTW, John did all the research on this. He will be happy to confirm it.

Jim, Cami

Could you both post a bunch of bunnies and other thingys on a separate thread for Jana? She is in an egg-decorating-frenzy right now, and would really enjoy seeing bunnies here on the computer.

She would also like to see a picture of Tanner. Bud?

You know....one of these days things are going to slow down a little and I'm going to have some free time again to do stuff like take pictures of my kid and dye easter eggs and go fishin' and stuff like that.

But until this deeply embedded fear I have (and have always had) of my entire family going hungry because I wasn't working goes away, I'm takin' all comers this "tile season", I'm confused, but I think I just filled July the other day.

......and I still don't know how to work that damned digital camera efficiently but I'm sitting right here looking at it and one day I will learn it.

But first I've got to get loaded for tomorrows job.

Thank you for the greetings-Before I got married it was no big deal to work the holidays-long as I dont miss a Laker Or King Game; but now the wifey wants to spend quality time during the holidays-which is great. Which came first the bunny or the egg?
