I finally met up with Flatfloor aka "Da Leveler". We had been discussing this for months. With Jim's expert guidance, I safely navigated my way across the George Washington Bridge, the Cross Bronx "Expressway" (yeah, right), the Throgs Neck Bridge, and into Queens. We met at a nice little seafood restaurant, and sat and talked for about two hours. Unfortunately, Kathleen and Missy didn't make the trip.
Jim was kind enough to bring me a growler of lager from a small Long Island brewery.
The other forum regular I have met in person is Dave Ashton. I hope to meet up with the rest of you guys sometime soon.
Is that what Jim did when you asked him for the free samples of SLC?
I hate to ask what he did when you asked for the primer!!
Is he as ugly as everyone says he is? (I owed you that one Jim. Remember the guy with his head up his posterior?)

I wonder if a growler is something like a schooner. Maybe it's one of those big cans that have the little tap and pump on them. Growler just sounds like a lot of beer to me. Probably not a lot of beer to Rob, though.

"Growler" is the lingo (around here, at least) for a large , refillable, jug/jar/bottle of beer. They are typically found at the microbreweries.
The term growler may come from the fact that if you drink one of these things full of the heavy , high octane beer that's in them by yourself....your head will be a-growlin' in the morning.
I've cut waaaay back on the beer lately. Ask Flatfloor...I only had two at lunch. Pretty responsible, huh?

I don't know how a guy can drink only two beers. I can't. :D
What makes me "GROWL".
It's when you ask a question, and they tell you what a beer container is.
"Is he as ugly, as everyone says?"
I have run an informal survey down here. As you all know, New Yorkers love the Miami area. So I have been asking around and the concensus is (drum roll please)
HE IS UUUUUUUGGGGLLLYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rob, you may now cast your vote.
Chip (cute as a button) and don't forget the "H".
Fish fear me?

You got me.
Rob-"Only two beers". True but they were growlers :D
The Growler
A growler is a beer drinker's dream come true. It is 64 oz. of Old Dominion beer that comes in a glass container (imported from Germany) called a "growler". You can fill it with almost any beer on tap at the Brew Pub (some beers may not be available at time of filling your growler).
The initial cost is $14 which serves as a deposit for the glass container itself. Then, with each visit to the Brew Pub, you can fill your growler for only $5. And because your growler contains brewery fresh beer, you should drink it within a few days of getting it.

Now let's get down to cases here. 64 oz. is a little over five regular beers. At five bucks, that's a buck a beer.
I buy Miller High Life at $7 for twelve beers. Do your own arithmetic. Read 'em and weep. ;)
That is a pretty little jug, though.

They come in all shapes and sizes. I used that one because Rob, I think, visits there on occasion.

Yeah, I'll jump in and say although Miller is Miller I usually by a thirty pack of Miller Light and that's my chosen brew-more than likely an acquired taste- but somehow I seem to remember when I was much younger, me and my two younger brothers would have our friend buy us each a quart of Schlitz Malt Liquor- and either this was really strong or my tolerance was very low to alcohol cause one quart would really do a number on me and my younger brothers as well.

Had to chime in here. There is small microbrewery about 20 minutes from my house, in Solon, IA. You can pick up growlers there...2 gallon glass jugs of some really good tasting stuff. If you bring your jugs back they re-fill'em and you get a discount! Sometimes its funny with a bunch of guys lined up with their empty jugs....looks like something out of Prohibition days. You can also belly up to the small bar and throw back few if you want, which I usually do!
MMMMMMM...Beer Good.

I just mentioned Miller High Life to get you guys going. You don't really think I would drink that swill, do you? ;)
JL,
Schlitz Malt Licquor brings back memories -- old memories. There was also "Old English," "Steidt," and several others. The idea was to pack as much alcohol content into a can as possible and still call it a beer or ale or "malt licquor."
Hi Dave,
You don't really think I'd stoop to Miller High Life, do you, and you bein' an old Busch drinker?

In life there are really just a few basic principles that one needs to abide by. One of mine is drink what is cold and in the fridge, unless its Guinness and then it can be warm and sitting on the counter. When it comes to beer Im not real picky. Maybe its just an upbringing thing. I never have acquired a taste for those raspberry beers and the like.
Take a look at that motley crew...the only one still single is sitting next to me, 2nd from the left just got married a couple weeks ago (St. Pats weekend...Im still in recovery) and is doing a residency in emergency medicine, next over an ER Doctor, he's a great stitcher...we've given him lots of opportunities to practice, and far right, a sales rep for some high dollar company in the Twin Cities.
Never slap a man who's chewin tobacco,
