Living in a city that seldom creates a stir with its professional sports teams, I can't help telling you all that I'm mildly excited about the Astros' prospects for making it to the World Series (that's baseball for all you offshore folks. :) ). It would be the first time in their history, having come close in 1985 when they allowed the obviously inferior NY Mets to beat them out of the playoffs. Today's a travel day. If the Stros can beat St. Louis once more tomorrow night or the night after, they're in. :)

That's a big "if" JB. I would like nothing better than to see the Yanks beat Houston but St. Louis got some big sticks. ;)

I honestly did not think that Houston could match up with the Cardinals, but winning 3 in a row convinced me. Houston is on such a roll the last month of the season. The wild cards are really a lot of fun.

Just to throw a political issue into baseball, who made the following statement:

"History will prove me right, that the Wild Card procedure will be a complete failure."

The answer is below.

Think.

Times running out.

Give Up?

George W. Bush.

If the Stros end up beating the Sox does that mean that Boston is releived of the "Curse of the Bambino" and picks up the "Curse of the Rocket"?

One more late night up here. Its gotten truly nuts. I wonder if whoever ends up representing the AL will have anything left at all. The Sox and Yankees are going at it like war.

The Sox are such fighters. Gotta love them. Unfortunately, I feel they can not win 4 in a row against the Yankees. But tonight is game 7, and we'll see.

When the series was at 3-0, very few thought that the Sox would make it past game 4. I'm hopin and prayin. :)

Well, Houston lost in 12 innings. Always tomorrow, eh? ;)

How 'bout them Sox?!?!?! :D

Gotta love the Yankees chant to Pedro Martinez, "Whose your Daddy?"

But the Sox retort to Gary Sheffield "Whose Your Dealer?")

The real question is who is Steinbrenner going to fire?

I'm pulling for the Cards, of course. Otherwise I'd have to pull for the American League, and that'd be un-American. ;)

I'm not much into baseball, but it's great that the Sox were able to do what no other team's done, and I'd love to see em break the curse, once and for all.

Pigs are flying. Hell has frozen over. Never again will the year 1918 have any important meaning to Red Sox nation.

That's all ANYONE's talking about up here. :) They're saying the Sox are going to come up here for a parade through Portland after the elections. :)

Theresa-- where exactly in Houston, and where abouts from Maine? The reason I ask is because about 6 years ago I was down there doing some work in the Woodlands, and while I was down there, there was an "ice house" that I hung out at shooting pool up in Conroe, and the girl behind the bar was from OOB. What're the chances? :D

Sorry but that wasn't me - I'm from Portland (Deering Center :tree: ) and currently reside in Spring. Or as folks around here would say waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy up North. :stick:

And I have very vivid memories of the day after in 1986.

All washed away last night!!! :aparty: :aparty: :aparty: :aparty:

Someone asked me at work today if I was going to fly back for the party. Don't I wish! Have some fun for me! :aparty:

My question now is what does this say for the Astros? I mean, we could have got beaten out be somebody who could have at least beat the Sox a couple games! :D

Hi Theresa. :)

John, I have a feeling that once they woke up and realised they were about to go down the tubes again, ANYONE who got in front of them, they would have steamrolled right over. Think about it-- 8 championship games in a row. That's more than chance. That was a team with a purpose. :)

Theresa--

I do alot of work around your old neighborhood. I live in Bridgton, but I do work from Norway to Cape Elizabeth and Foreside. I've even done a fair amount of work down toward Ogonquit and Kennebunk. :)

The parade starts in 20 minutes three miles from my house. Sometimes relatives and their needs can be very inconvienent

They are expecting upwards of 4 MILLION people. Insane.
