I was going to tag on to Shaughns thread regarding Stone Expo, but decided to start a new one. Time to plan for Surfaces in Las Vegas January 25-28, 2005. There are some good airfares available right now. If I were a tile contractor, this is the one show I would plan to attend.

But for a show where the contractor is going to get the most bang for his buck, you can't beat Surfaces. Us midwesterners look forward to going somewhere above 60 degrees F in January.

Also a great opportunity to check out the competition.

Carpet, resilient, wood/laminate, YES. Ceramic, Stone, NO.....
ITSS is a better place for me to go and find stuff I actually want to see
What do you mean by Bang for your Buck?

Plus, Vegas is Vegas. better now than later. :yipee: :yipee: :yipee:
P.S. How you doing Chris?

I've never been to Surfaces. Each time I ask the question: If I can only go to one show per year, which should it be? The answer always comes back "Coverings."

Everyone who goes to a trade show goes for different reasons. In the many years I have been attending the national shows, I've see more tile contractors at Surfaces than any other national trade show. I think it is a beneficial show because all of the installation products and tool manufacturers are there, as well as many lines of tile, stone and specialty products.

Yes, the carpet, resilient, wood and laminate people there, that's what I meant by checking out the competition. Every one of those products are vying for the consumers floor/wall covering dollar. Anything I can learn about them to help me sell against them and further my business is to my advantage. It also may present opportunities to some to expand into another facet of finished surfaces and grow their business by offering their customers more than just tile or stone. I personally like Surfaces for what it offers, the cost of attending is probably the most reasonable of all, and I get a break from the typical bitter cold of January in the midwest.

I'll still go to Coverings, even though it is in early May next year, but right now I'm not interested in buying full containers of anything. It is still the premier show for ceramic tile distributors, though. If my business was all, or mostly stone, it would be one of the ITSS shows and Coverings for certain. But to see the products and talk to the people behind the materials I am using on a daily basis, Surfaces would be my choice.

End of January, well, maybe Patti wouldn't mind going to Vegas in January. :)

I agree Chris. ITSS is more stone oriented but that is changing quickly.
John, Coverings is the best for our trade. You can find it all there.
I have also attended the ITSS and although it isn't as big yet, it'll get there soon. ITSS hired the same Lady(can't remember her name now) that use to be the director for Coverings. She's trying to make the ITSS in Vegas the Coverings of the West Coast.
Plus, entrance and seminars etc... FREE
