I have a new Smeralda granite counter top. The installer buffed out a scratch. The spot is now dull. Can it be repolished and if so how?
Also the Smeralda does not seem to shine as much as much as other finished granite installations I've seen. Do some colors shine more than others? If not, how should the shine be enhanced?

I presume you mean Costa Smeralda. Green and white?
Clearly the last guy couldn't polish well. If he is that company's best then I would hire another pro.
Yes, some products do shine more than others. Thee isn't much to do short of waxing the tops. The problem with this is that it wouldn't last.
I'd accept them as they are. It is a great product.

Tommy -
If you mean that the whole countertop does not shine, but it's uniform, then you should probably accept it as the best that can happen with that particular stone.
This is cuz the facilities that do the polishing these days use the most advanced equipment possible, in general. They have precise control over the process, unlike field restoration, where the angle may be awkward and the piece may not be accessible on all sides after installation. If their processing doesn't make a mirror shine, it's not likely I could with a hand held machine.
If, on the other hand, you mean that only the area the gent polished looks significantly duller, then yes, it can be re-done. The rest of the stone shows what can be done to it. Maybe by someone else, or maybe by the same person if he doesn't mind. If one of my customers was not happy with my work, I would want the opportunity to fix my own piece. That being said, if he was hesitant and scheduled the job for the twelfth of Never, I'd move on to another contractor.
